Rite Aids are blasting Barry Manilow tunes to deter vagrants

He writes the songs that make people run.

Some Rite Aid stores in California have taken to blasting Barry Manilow tunes as part of a plan to make loiterers scramble.

Employees told the Wall Street Journal that the drugstore chain has been testing the tactic of playing songs by the 75-year-old crooner outside their stores — over and over, loudly — to deter panhandlers and vagrants.

But the plan has also left neighbors mystified.

“I thought some older man had died and left a Barry’s Most Depressing Hits CD on repeat,” said Lisa Masters, a professional drummer in Long Beach who couldn’t open her windows without hearing “Mandy” blaring.

“I felt trapped in an episode of ‘The Twilight Zone,’” she said.

Someone tell Tamar Lapin that Manilow didn't write "I Write the Songs". Sometime Beach Boy Bruce Johnston did.

The anniversary here in Michigan is pretty solid with that song almost everywhere you go in the northern part of the state. And more.

I like to play Howard Stern loudly when the neighbors kids get too loud. Got speakers pointed right at their house.

Hey, I love Dan Fogelberg! He was an incredible songwriter.

But, I admit, I love dark, depressing music so that is a plus, lol.

R.I.P. Dan Fogelberg. I hate cancer.

“But, I admit, I love dark, depressing music so that is a plus, lol.”

I thought I was the only one.

Yesterday I went to a movie with a grandaughter and in it they played Leonard Cohen’s “Who by Fire”.

I told her I that loved that song-——and she said,”But it’s so depressing”.

And I said,”Exactly”.

:-)

Here's another one I think they should consider playing for those dallying deadbeats:
"Hallelujah! I'm A Bum!"

Good ol' Haywire Mac!

Rite Aid would be cited by the UN for crimes against humanity if they blasted Yoko Ono.

I saw this gem recently and I couldn’t help but laugh. I bet when this aired, John Lennon and Chuck Berry fans were ready to kill Yoko, lol.

Only Yoko Ono could take a potential legendary musical moment and turn it into an SNL spoof. Some heroic sound man finally muted her mic,LOL.

I worked with Barry’s cousin many years ago. The people at my local Rite Aid are going to love this story. I was kidding one of the young guys that works there last week. I caught him working in the liquor section. Yes, this store has a large liquor department, lol.

You forgot Gordon Lightfoot:

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they’d have made Whitefish Bay
If they’d put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters

I should have read a little further before my reply. You had the same idea. ;-)
