Rock and soul music diva Tina Turner, who’s lived in Switzerland for nearly two decades, is giving up her US citizenship, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
Citing a report from the US embassy in Bern, it said Turner, 73, signed a statement to relinquish her US citizenship at the embassy in October.
She married German record producer Erwin Bach in July, three months after taking Swiss citizenship.
Turner topped the charts in the 1960s with then-husband Ike Turner with hits like “River Deep, Mountain High,” before a successful run as a solo artist that included “Private Dancer” in 1984.
Quoting a “knowledgeable source,” the Post said relinquishment is simpler than renouncing US citizenship – and entails no tax or other penalties.
The United States is one of the few countries that requires its citizens who live permanently abroad to declare and pay income tax.
She is pretty awesome.
Interesting, because Oprah was one of the guests at her wedding, and that was the occasion when Oprah threw a hissy fit at an Italian-Swiss shopgirl for not recognizing her when she tried to buy a $38,000.00 handbag.

Maybe, but she signed a “Statement of Voluntary Relinquishment of U.S. Citizenship under Section 349 (a)(1) of the INA” in 2013. She is a citizen of Switzerland and not a dual citizen of anywhere else.
Well,she’s just guaranteed a 75% drop in her income.She’s also just guaranteed that she’ll never again be invited on “Ellen”.
