Right now :Lawrence O'Donnell counting on Jeff Flake to kill Trump's nominee
MSNBC right now | 6/27/2018 | MSNBC/ O'Donnell on airjust

Posted on 06/27/2018 7:21:01 PM PDT by sickoflibs

A few minutes ago LO'D MSNBC (10pm EST) playing a clip of Jeff Flake on ABC This Week (Sunday) saying he will block a Trump judicial nominee until he gets a Senate vote on Tariffs.

Suggesting that Flake playing a McCain could give cover to vulnerable Senate Dems to ALL vote against a Trump SCOTUS nominee.

Just mentioned Bork being Defeated.

Given the environment these days, that is a dangerous choice of words for the title.

Fortunately, Flake is too much of a gutless coward to do it literally, even if he is lunatic enough to want to.

AZ is being manipulated into electing McSallycain as the next Flake.

As if the current one and McAmnesty are not bad enough.

In April 2017, he [Flake] voted to invoke cloture (end debate) on the nomination of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, putting an end to the Democratic filibuster. Flake also voted for the “nuclear option,” ending the ability to filibuster Supreme Court nominees, and deviating from Senate tradition.

He stated, “While changing Senate rules was not my preferred outcome, this will simply make de jure what was de facto prior to 2003, when filibusters were virtually never used on the executive calendar.

Joe Donnelly (D-IN) will not vote with the Democrats. He will get skewered in Indiana before the election if he does. It will be the same with all the Dems from red states.

Flake wants to earn a living after he leaves the senate. McConnell will see to it nobody ever comes close to him if Flake causes a loss on a SCOTUS vote.

Flake can’t stop it. D’s need 2 to flips. 1 flip just makes it a 50-50 vote with pence breaking the tie.

Heavenly Father, We praise You. You are in control of everything . . .including our next breath. Our country is out of control with self-serving individuals going out of their way to disrupt the will of the people. We pray that You will take out those in positions of influence that are thwarting our republic’s principles. May people stand in awe and say “Look what the Lord hath done!” Thank you for being our fortress and an ever present help in times of trouble. In Jesus Name, Amen

"Bottom line - the Dems, if they can block the nominee, will lose 4 or 5 seats in November, and Trump will simply re-nominate him - and he sails through.

That is thinking two moves ahead. And that would be a good scenario.

Which Democrats will be attacking Trump’s nominee during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on his or her nomination?

Most of the Democrats on the Committee are mean-spirited elderly hacks whose bloviating is too boring to be listened to. For example, Patrick Leahy, Dianne Feinstein, Dick Durbin.

However, two of the Committee’s Democrats have presidential aspirations — Kamala Harris and Cory Booker — so things could get very interesting.

The Democrats want blood. They’re unhinged, they’re out of their minds, they want Trump’s nominee to be torn limb from limb.

Will Senators Harris and Booker oblige by channeling Mad Maxine Waters to attack the nominee?

If they don’t, if they act like civilized human beings, the Democrats will be extremely disappointed in them, and it will be difficult for them to achieve their aspiration of winning the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

However, if they do act like Mad Maxine, the vast majority of American voters will be so repelled by them that they will never be able to win the presidency.

Bring out the popcorn.

There a 10 Dem Senators in states Trump won up for re-election. There’s no way they want to be on record voting no for a Trump Supreme Court Justice.

“When it comes to something as important as the SC, the GOP senate won’t divide, even guys like Flake.”

John McCain is dying. On top of that he’s a miserable SOB who hates Trump. He would like nothing better than to vote against whoever might be Trump’s SC pick, Put nothing past that miserable closet democrat.

"Kill" ?

What happened to "Love Trumps Hate" and the kindler gentler tone which Dems hectored everyone about over the Gabby Giffords shooting?

Doubly ironic since the Steve Scalise shooting -- which was done by a Bernie-bot on political grounds -- has gone down the memory hole.

Believe it or not, I think Mitch will pressure Flake enough to get his vote. Flake will whine, and threaten, and demand, but in the end, he knows that he’s done in the GOP if he screws a republican pick for SCOTUS.

Heh, McCain. He’d love to screw trump of course, but from what I’m hearing, he’s basically bed-ridden. He won’t make the hearings, or the vote. He’s simply waiting to die at home, and milking his seat to oppose trump, till he finally dies, and begins his journey to hell.

President Trump will only nominate a super qualified nominee - as all of those on his list are.

So all the Republicans and a few Democrats will likely end up voting for them.

So all the Democrats can likely do, is get as much political mileage out of their resistance, and bashing the nominee, as they can. Perhaps a no-holds barred smear job - they have had almost two years to get to work doing opposition research on that list.

Flake is so bitter, he could do anything. But, surely it would be too embarrassing after he helped with Gorsuch.
