FULL TITLE: Laura Ingalls Wilder's name pulled from library award over 'stereotypical attitudes' in her popular books

Laura Ingalls Wilder's name is set to be removed from a major children's book award after concerns were raised about the "Little House on the Prairie" author's depiction of certain races in the early-to-mid 20th century.

The Association of Library Service to Children's (ALSC) board voted unanimously on Saturday to rename the "Laura Ingalls Wilder Award" as the "Children’s Literature Legacy Award."

LOL!

But their bigotry says more about them than Laura Ingalls.

That Nellie Olson was a spoiled brat and don't get me started about her mother!

My entire Family enjoyed that show.

They are culturally insensitive (to use their own phrase) to other eras and the strengths and weaknesses of those eras.

This is getting closer to a Nazi book burning mentality.

Mark Twain soon to follow.

Adventures of Huck Finn already long-banned by many schools and libraries. A black protagonist is fine, but don't call him "Nigger Jim."

The book was better. The book just expressed the way people were at the time. Can’t change history but they are trying.

They are fine works of American literature. She wrote very accurately about the American Indian as well as her mother's hatred of them and her father's more benevolent attitude towards them.

In today's NY Times, there appeared two articles on how evil To Kill A Mockingbird was.

Up is down and down is up. Venezuela, here we come.

Does anyone with half a mind think history as portrayed in modern TV shows or movies is even close to real?

They change everything to what they wish it was.

Their comrades ripped down a statue of Stephen Foster from his ( & mine) hometown recently. I have no doubt if we ever have one part rule by them, they will genocide us.

The only ones I remember her speaking of in the books were the “indians.” I do recall her mother had a fear of them, but her dad not as much. Also I don’t remember Laura necessarily sharing their view. In fact, in Little House on the Prairie I think she sees a “papoose” and thinks how beautiful it is and wants to keep it :) That may be where Dr. Tan, an “African doctor” saves them from some illness?
