BARDSTOWN, Ky. —
A building collapse at the Barton 1792 distillery in Bardstown sent thousands of bourbon barrels crashing to the ground.
Bardstown fire officials said the collapse happened at Barton 1792 after 11 a.m. Friday.
Nelson County Emergency Management spokesman Milt Spalding said about 9,000 barrels of aging bourbon were affected.
The building houses about 20,000 barrels of aging bourbon.

In the interest of Public Safety, I volunteer to take a keg home to take “Integrity Samples” at regular intervals, and report results back to the Consumer Product Protection Agency and the FDA.
They should have hired a descendant of John Jameson, the guy that was loathed to lose even one barrel.
On the bright side, 35 Emergency Management employees and 50 VFD members are still missing.
1792 is the date when Kentucky became a state. I don’t know why it is used here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the distillery is nearly as old. Jim Beam was founded in 1795, after all.

They make an excellent bourbon. I’ve got a bottle at home as I type this. Costco sells it for around $23 a fifth.
