Update: At the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, Toyota announced that the company is now developing the GR Super Sport Concept as a road car, effectively bringing Le Mans tech to the streets, a first since the GT1 era. What a time to be alive. Our original story on the concept, published 1/12/18, appears below.

Last year, Toyota boss Akio Toyoda said that as the auto industry approaches times of tremendous change he is "strongly determined to make sure that cars will be fun for the next 100 years." One small step towards that honorable goal would be Toyota turning its World Endurance Championship TS050 race car into a road-going halo machine. And that's where the GR Super Sport Concept comes in.
Presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota's road-going LMP1 concept packs a combined output of 1000 horsepower. That's thanks to a twin-turbo direct-injection 2.4-liter V6 and the race-spec electric motors of Toyota's hybrid system. If this setup sounds familiar, that's because TS050 has the very same drivetrain. This is the real deal. The rest of the car is "composed of mostly the same main parts" as well, as Toyota admits.

This lean-engined concept runs on 18-inch tires wrapped in 330-section rubber, and if you take a good look at its aero package, it looks like it could take the fight to the the Mercedes-AMG Project One and Aston Martin Valkyrie.

While staying in WEC for 2018-2019, Toyota will continue to accelerate its electrification program in order to stay competitive in the following decade. At CES, the company presented the e-Palette Concept, which is basically an automated living room. The product resulting from the GR Super Sport Concept experiment would be the opposite of that, and Toyota believes that the possibility of offering "polar opposite models" will mean that we should never get bored with its products.
We know which pole we would explore.
LOL. Them, too!
How does it work in a ski area parking lot?
put a big enough engine on it and you can make anything fly ...
Competitions were an important thing in advancing the automobile technologies over 100 years. But by this point Im not sure that they arent now ‘splitting hair’s.
1000HP yes I can use that in highway rush hour traffic ...
Yeah... very vanilla. Nothing in the line up to get excited about.
Compare to a halo car like the Dodge Hellcat, or a production 5.0 GT Mustang, or a V-series Cadillac...
And seriously, Honda’s alleged truck - points for creativity and re-thinking, but... No.
Bugatti veyron?
You can find the Bugatti trying to catch the Koenigsegg Agera R. Christian Koenigsegg and his team are probably the best automotive engineers on the planet.
Man the tail one could get with that...
It also offers a MUCH higher level of luxury, comfort & refinement which separates it from other high-performance cars.
Specs aren't too shabby, either:
1500 HP
1600 Torque
310 MPH (with appropriate tires)
Bugatti Chiron...it supersedes the Veyron.
Yeah, one speed bump and that whole front end is trashed.
Front end of that VDub looks like it was inspired by the Edsel ‘toilet seat’
All that boring reliability, economy, and smooth riding of my Toyota Corolla was the perfect compliment to my plenty exciting and heart stirring Ducati 900SS/SP!

The Bugatti “Horseshoe”...for the knowledgeable.
The “W16” with quad-turbos is an amazing piece of engineering! 16 cylinders in barely greater length than a V-8!

But a "Ma-Deuce" .50BMG mounted on the roof is far more useful!

It should be faster than that. Here's a 1000-HP Jeep that does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds.

A Tesla will do that in the “Insane” mode.

That is your opinion?
In the world of engineering McLaren is every bit the equal of those two.
