No, I’m not listing them. ;-(
High poverty rate means LOW productivity rate. Why are big cities TAKERS rather than producers? Should be obvious.
I don’t know why college education is factored in, some of the more intelligent people are evil, and some of the least educated are down-to-earth saints. I’d rather be around a population of the latter.
Message to California residents: please do NOT buy the lie that a conservative sweep of our state within the next couple of years is impossible. Our main problems are voter apathy and poor turnout for state/local elections. Most Californians are not staunchly allied with either party and identify as independent. Many (especially immigrants - and not just Hispanic) are more conservative-leaning than we realize especially given the visible disaster one-party rule has been for our state and big cities: Los Angeles/San Fran.
In fact, I HOPE L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti runs against Trump in 2020 so he can answer for the ridiculous state of L.A’s homeless crisis (homeless population as QUADRUPLED under his leadership) among a whole host of other failures before the entire nation.
These are two different lists. Birmingham, AL is #2 on the TV station’s list.
So, I spent most of my adult life living in two of these cities (Rockford, IL (#16) & Columbus, GA (#50)), and worked a few years in Hartford, CT (#8).
Rockford, IL is like Russia for Solzhenitsyn, something about it draws you back.
What? No Chicago?
1. Detroit
2. Flint
3. St Louis
4. Memphis
5. Cleveland
9. Baltimore
10 Milwaukee
Questionable methodology, though it got many obvious examples.
No correlation with ‘rat control mentioned.
#1 worst: Detroit, Michigan - Democrat mayors since 1962
#2: Birmingham, Alabama - Democrat mayors since 1975
#3: Flint Michigan - “non-partisan” mayors under the city charter
#4: St. Louis, Missouri - Democrat mayors since 1949
#5: Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Democrat, socialist, or “non-partisan” mayors since 1916
#6: Albany, Georgia - no convenient list of mayors and their party
#7: Hartford, Connecticut - Democrat mayors since 1975
#8: Merced, California - no convenient list of mayors and their party
#9: Wilmington, Delaware - Democrat mayors since 1973
#10: Springfield, Missouri - no convenient list of mayors and their party
The list speaks for itself.
Bkmk
My list - Chicago, Detroit, San Fransicko, Oakland, LA, Baltimore, washingtonDC, flint Michigan, Seattle, San Jose, New Jersey etc all mostly unlivable for one or more serious reasons. Interestingly. Yes as several folks have pointed out , all run by D politicos
Salt Lake City should not be on the list
Begin in Canton, OH and proceed west past Chicago and north to Milwaukee. In a band from there 60 miles to the north (e.g., as far as Flint and Kalamazoo) are 11 of the 50 cities, including the worst of these.
I live in Ann Arbor, MI, own a small farm due west near Lake Michigan and travel extensively through all of these parts. There are indeed large pockets of great financial distress. But there is also so much to recommend this part of the country and I love living here.
We mock RINOs on this site, but Republican governors (Rick Snyder in MI, Kasich in OH, Daniels in IN, Brauner in IL, and Walker in WI) have had huge and enduring impacts.
I think that suburban Baltimore and downtown Baltimore are like 2 different worlds. This rating was probably based on down Baltimore.
Who wants to live in a city anyways. I prefer to country.
Florence-Graham California. I have lived in California all my life and have never heard of the place. Well I looked it up. Guess what? It is Watts. Hahahaha
“High-paying jobs are often only available to those with a college education and the low incomes in Florence-Graham may be attributable to a relative lack of college-educated workers. Just 4.4% of adults in the city have a bachelor’s degree or higher, the smallest share of any U.S. city and just a fraction of the national bachelor’s degree attainment rate of 31.3%.”
Fort Smith, Arkansas deserves to be much lower on the list. It is dirty, disorganized, disheveled and a dump. There is no charm at all to the city. Its redeeming virtues are that it is an old industrial city and you can still find most industrial related things and services there, it has a pretty nice airport, the little college is OK. Other than that, did I say it is a dump?
Tulsa, Oklahoma deserves to be on the list. It is a far cry from what it was in the day that it claimed to be “America’s Most Beautiful City”. That is all behind it now though the new mayor seems to be making some progress. The crime rate there must be horrible from number of daily crime reports on the radio.
Oklahoma City is just an near High Plains city. Dusty and dry and dismal.
Good Job, Michigan. Gold and Silver in this competition.
Just arriving in Jeffrey Dahmer Land.
