Quality of life in an American city often depends on the neighborhood one lives in, as abject poverty and crime can be found just blocks away from prosperity. Still, as much as a city can be judged on the whole, some cities face widespread problems that detract from their residents overall quality of life.
Americans take into consideration a number of factors when deciding where to live, including the quality of schools, the strength of the local economy and job market, the areas safety and culture, as well as its climate. Cities that perform well by these measures are more likely to attract new residents, and those that do not tend to drive residents away.
To determine Americas worst cities to live in, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed data on the 551 U.S. cities with a population of 65,000 or more as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau. Based on a range of variables, including crime rates, employment growth, access to restaurants and attractions, educational attainment, and housing affordability, 24/7 Wall St. identified Americas 50 worst cities to live.

Poverty does or did not always indicate criminal behavior
Not among my ancestors many of whom were poor no question
Begin in Canton, OH and proceed west past Chicago and north to Milwaukee. In a band from there 60 miles to the north (e.g., as far as Flint and Kalamazoo) are 11 of the 50 cities, including the worst of these.
I live in Ann Arbor, MI, own a small farm due west near Lake Michigan and travel extensively through all of these parts. There are indeed large pockets of great financial distress. But there is also so much to recommend this part of the country and I love living here.
We mock RINOs on this site, but Republican governors (Rick Snyder in MI, Kasich in OH, Daniels in IN, Brauner in IL, and Walker in WI) have had huge and enduring impacts.
It’s way above Camden NJ, which means the list is a useless joke.
There are some that should be but aren’t and some that shouldn’t be but are. Different methods of deciding I suppose.
I think that suburban Baltimore and downtown Baltimore are like 2 different worlds. This rating was probably based on down Baltimore.
Salt lake is a great city
Best looking girls
Like North Dallas
What? No Chicago?
My thoughts also. I noticed there were no large cities. My cousin came to visit from NYC and here in NH the news was on. They reported on a murder the night before in our local area and he questioned it. I told him that was for the whole state.
Many (especially immigrants - and not just Hispanic) are more conservative-leaning than we realize
Do you live in California? I do. I know a whole bunch of these so called conservative Hispanics. Most of the ones I know are either from original California or Texas. Generations of Americans. Guess what? They still vote Democrat. I don’t understand it but they do. Maybe it’s like the old style Dems that still vote Dem because they’d never vote Republican even though the Democrats are Communists now. Shrug.
No i am thinking of Armenians, Koreans, etc...there are non-Hispanic ethnic groups who make up pretty sizable voting blocks in certain districts.
Not a single Texas city on the list.
Who wants to live in a city anyways. I prefer to country.
Yeah. Some have taken over whole towns in Los Angeles, etc. I don’t know how they vote but they are definitely outnumbered by the Hispanics that vote Dem.
Florence-Graham California. I have lived in California all my life and have never heard of the place. Well I looked it up. Guess what? It is Watts. Hahahaha
“High-paying jobs are often only available to those with a college education and the low incomes in Florence-Graham may be attributable to a relative lack of college-educated workers. Just 4.4% of adults in the city have a bachelor’s degree or higher, the smallest share of any U.S. city and just a fraction of the national bachelor’s degree attainment rate of 31.3%.”
A good many tend to be conservative, religious, weary of open borders, desiring of good schools, and disgusted by things like the transgender agenda.
Wilmington DE does not surprise me. Their ghetto areas have some of the most ridiculous violent crime rates in the country.
Fort Smith, Arkansas deserves to be much lower on the list. It is dirty, disorganized, disheveled and a dump. There is no charm at all to the city. Its redeeming virtues are that it is an old industrial city and you can still find most industrial related things and services there, it has a pretty nice airport, the little college is OK. Other than that, did I say it is a dump?
Tulsa, Oklahoma deserves to be on the list. It is a far cry from what it was in the day that it claimed to be “America’s Most Beautiful City”. That is all behind it now though the new mayor seems to be making some progress. The crime rate there must be horrible from number of daily crime reports on the radio.
Oklahoma City is just an near High Plains city. Dusty and dry and dismal.
Examples, please? :-)
The crime levels there seem to be awfully high. Other than that it seems to be OK. At least they have the Grizzly Tool warehouse where one can go to drool over the shop tools.
Good Job, Michigan. Gold and Silver in this competition.
