LODI (CBS13) Several people were injured outside the Grape Bowl in Lodi on Saturday after a brawl broke out between fans of rival soccer teams.
Lodi police say more than 100 people spilled out into the streets surrounding the stadium, around 2:45 p.m., with several dozen directly involved in the fighting.
Ernie Silva lives just behind the stadium and saw it all unfold from his block, starting with a shirtless man with a severe head injury.
Blood pouring out everywhere, he said, describing the mans head and face. Not even a second later I hear sirens.
The event was high profile soccer match between rivals Chivas and America.
We werent expecting any type of violence or a brawl to break out. This was just going to be a sporting event, said officer Jerry Bahr with Lodi Police.
----
Probably like 60 people fighting right in the middle of the street, swinging big pipes. Big ole 12 foot pipes, 5-foot pipes flying across the crowd, he said. People started to scatter, running through the parking lot, bloody, shirts off.

Soccer fans fight each other in order to avoid thinking about the sheer mind-numbing dullness that is soccer.

If they were Scottish footballers they would have harmless bagpipes instead of big pipes.

Of course, I’m not sure which Lodi he was singing about.
I had always thought he meant California.

At the bottom right of the last picture you can see the domestic USofA soccer fans, all of them! (Just kidding, I do like soccer but there is this history of fights and wars ...)

Since this comes from CBS in Sacramento, I guess it’s the Lodi in California, not the one in Italy.

You seldom hear of brawls or fights at football, baseball, or basketball games....Commonplace at soccer games though...

“Big ole 12 foot pipes.” Lodi is a wonderful town where A&W Root Beer started in 1919. And the flamingos in the thousands arrive annually.
Sadly, Jerry Brown invited losers from other countries into Lodi and they just do what losers do: drink, fight and conclude that soccer is a difficult sport.
