Stop Everything. Some People Dont Rinse the Soap Off Their Dishes!? [Title only]
I have been looking at ways to streamline my life and had the initial question of how many individual rinses (of water-trapping untensils) is necessary to get all of the significant soap off of hand-washed dishes. Do some research, I discovered that British cultures DO NOT even rinse. An old landlady from England would rinse all her soapy dishes in the same tub of water, which I thought was gross.
What say you? Do you rinse at all, and if so, how many times do you swish fresh water around a pot/pan before you put it up to dry? Does it matter. Is there any scientific recommendation?
Horses, however, are not big on that method.
Wash, rinse, air dry. Home ec major here. We were told to wash, put the dishes in a drainer and pour very hot water over all. Allow to air dry.
My fami!y, for some reason, washes, rinses, and sets in a towel to dry. Personally stopped using a regular drainer with the bottom tray and use a copper wire drainer over a towel.
I use the sprayer that’s built into my faucet
Exactly. How do the British overlook the fact that auto dishwashers rinse dishes? Would seem to be important.
Id ask them if when they take a shower if they just walk out all soaped up and dry off.
My mother-in-law did that before she got a dish washer. Thank goodness to dishwashers!!!!
I rinse all to hell in hot water. I just try to conserve water in other ways.
Heating water is one of the most energy hogging activities in a home. I try to conserve hot water for this reason.
Id take a cold shower if I could stand it.
Without even washing!!!
Women would bathe only once a year in the spring and men would bathe in Spring and Fall.
Maybe the Brits use the soap film to keep their GI track clog free.
That's how my stepmother would do it, but I always did think she and her whole damned family were retarded. Since moving out on my own, I always rinse under fresh running water when doing a dishes by hand, otherwise I throw them into the dishwasher.
That’s a lot of Sunday dinners on those plates to think about, lol.
Apparently the key to hand washing dish sanitation.
Old Boy Scout protocol.
They don’t taste the residue? My original post was just a joke, Ralphie telling his mom all the soap he ingested as punishment for swearing made him go blind— “...Soap Poisoning” and his mom sobs with guilty tears.
Freegards
I rinse until that soapy film is gone.
For something like that 2-3 usually does it depending on the size.
It has a lot of silica in it and works great as a scrubbie.
Do NOT bring it home to plant in your yard or it will take over everything and you will have to nuke the place from orbit to get rid of it.
Leave it in the wild where it belongs.
Or toss it in the yard of your least favorite liberal.
Put dishes into the dishwasher. Real easy.
Well I would rinse thoroughly in running cold water then.
Oh my. My BIGGEST PET PEEVE seriously.
Yes I do rinse and make it a point to alternate between boiling hot water and cold. My family members think I waste too much water but semi-washed and semi-rinsed dishes are my BIGGEST pet peeve. Especially if the soap being used is hyper-chemical derived and not all natural-plant based. OCD I know. :)
I also loathe it when dishes are dried with towels which are clearly used and not clean.
Please people, use the dishwasher machine if you can’t bother doing it fully by hand. (Even still they may need a re-rinsing depending on age and functionality of machine.) Eek!
At least 35+ years ago, it was very standard for them not to rinse their dishes at all—and for Americans to be horrified by it.
Of course, dish detergent is different than hand soap...
Oh, and I never tasted residue from it.
