They don’t taste the residue? My original post was just a joke, Ralphie telling his mom all the soap he ingested as punishment for swearing made him go blind— “...Soap Poisoning” and his mom sobs with guilty tears.

At least 35+ years ago, it was very standard for them not to rinse their dishes at all—and for Americans to be horrified by it.
Of course, dish detergent is different than hand soap...
Oh, and I never tasted residue from it.
