Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan has died in London aged 68.

Kirwan was described as a "huge force" in Fleetwood Mac's early years, penning some of their lesser-known songs and contributing vocals.

As a teenager, Kirwan's band Boilerhouse supported Fleetwood Mac at venues in London before he was invited to join the group itself in 1968.

His work was featured on five of the band's albums released between 1969 and 1972.

He passed away on 8 June according to a post on the band's official Facebook page by drummer Mick Fleetwood.

RIP. Some can take the lifestyle, some, well, the lifestyle takes them. But yeah, that was my version of Fleetwood Mac too.

"Sands of Time" was probably Danny Kirwan's biggest contribution to Fleetwood Mac.

That’s the cost and expense of becoming an icon, even an idol.

Is it possible to do it without the glitter and glitz? It would be possible, but it’s quite unlikely it would fit with modern commercial models. Such a band would have to eke out a living as buskers.

I saw them downtown Phoenix earlier. 1976 at the Celebrity Theater.

Back before that cocaine soaked whiny chick joined the band and wrecked it.

Reports suggest Brixton-born Kirwan leaves behind a son.

Uh, sure.
