A Georgia police officer fired a day after video captured him hitting a suspect with his patrol car during a chase has been hired by a nearby sheriff’s department.

Taylor Saulters, who was a rookie in the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, was picked up by the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, its sheriff announced on Facebook.

“I have known him since he was a baby and I know he will be a great asset to our county,” Sheriff David Gabriel said

Saulters, who was fired on Saturday, remains the subject of a probe by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations for the June 1 incident, the GBI confirmed to HuffPost.

Gabriel, in announcing Saulters’ hiring in a statement, put his own spin on the action that got Saulter fired. The sheriff said Saulters’ name may sound familiar because of the incident “where a fleeing felon struck his patrol car while he was attempting to apprehend him.”

Video taken from inside Saulters’ patrol car shows him driving after Timmy Patmon, 23, who was fleeing on foot through a neighborhood while wanted on a felony probation warrant.

My that was quick. He hit the guy last Friday (6/1), was fired Saturday (6/2), and was hired today(6/5).

I guess his "fancy" pit maneuverer is highly sought.

“That police officer we just hired?
I know his Momma, and was on the football team with his Daddy (God rest his soul). He’s a good boy. Just needs some training. And no, I will NOT cast the first stone!”

Jeez, I looked at the video and didn’t think it much of a big deal — it appeared the perp ran into the cop’s car as much as the reverse. Anyhow, good for the young cop to have another chance.

Apparently the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s office did not think it was a big deal either.

I remember, when I was on the job, a fellow officer hitting a fleeing burglar with the marked sector car! Bad guy flew through a store front window, multiple burgs in the area solved. How was the officer rewarded??? A lengthy investigation by IAD!!! I considered this act to be one of the greatest pieces of police work I have ever witnessed!!!

The cop went from a ultra liberal college community to real Georgia.

Oglethorpe County was at one time part of Clarke County, Ga. if I recall correctly, Oglethorpe County is to the west of Clarke. The real estate in Oglethorpe County is incredible: 9 tenths of an acre with a 7 room ranch style house for $250,000. Of course the prices may have gone up. The influx into Oglethorpe County is increasing.

East. Or ESE of Clarke. Crawford. Between there and Wilkes County (where I never heard of the famous county seat being referred to as anything other than Washington-Wilkes.)

Digging a bit more, it looks like Oglethorpe county dates to 1793, and Clarke County just dates to 1801.

a lot of folks are down on cops- but cops all over this country put their lives i n the line every single day i n ways we’ll never even hear about- answering the call when everyone else won’t-

Here’s a video of a man trying to run over officers- darn near gets them too

There are many many fine officers out there working every day to make the world a safer place to live in- who get no credit for doing so- Yes- there are a few rogue power hungry cops- but they are the minority- not the majority

You are right. I was thinking of Oconee County which is to the west of Clarke. And I am part right. Part of Clarke was split off and given to Oglethorpe. At one time, Clarke County was geographically huge. Various sections were carved off to make Clarke the smallest land area in the state. Thus, Clarke had little or no political or economic strength. The University would be a special district of the State and would by law pay zero property taxes to Athens/Clarke and Athens/Clarke would sort of provide janitors and cooks for the College. Heavy duty industries were kept out of Athens to prevent the college guys from dropping out of school to get great wage manufacturing jobs in the town. Thus, lots of poverty and lots of crime. No jobs worth having and no hope for the future. That is for the unskilled.

While the old soviet era East German Crone allows her new constituency, the Mohammedan’s of Islam, rape their way across Europe. Of course it takes a special kind of nation’s leader, one who lived thru the soviet rape of Germany and Poland to bring yet another wave of foreign invader who also rapes German women - and then her government blacks out the news reporting as if nothing is happening - all in the name of diversity’s perversity!

Athens-Clarke County is after all a college town (UGA) and thus pretty Leftist. I’m unsurprised a nearby more conservative rural county picked him up.

I seem to recall a clock factory where they would use radioactive paint on the dials so the clock faces and hands were readable at night. (Westclox?)
