Sheriff: Prank call sends SWAT to home of David Hogg (swatted)

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The Broward County Sheriff's Office responded to a prank call to the home of David Hogg Tuesday morning.

The call, according to CBS Miami, referred to a stabbing and barricaded subject at Hogg's home in Parkland. Deputies and the SWAT team responded. According to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, the prank call was deemed not credible. The scene cleared around 10 a.m.

I intensely dislike Hogg, but given the police today someone could have been injured or killed.

One can only conceive of this as being "attempted murder" because the police are so far out of control. They are shooting people just answering the door. They are shooting people holding cell phones and tv remote controls. They are shooting people who are maybe just pulling their pants up. Shooting homeowners investigating a noise in their drive way. They are shooting people because THEY feel threatened not because of any credible threat. They are shooting people because they thought the person had a gun. They are shooting people because they used expletives shouting a command and did not get immediate compliance. Do I need to go on?

We are way past time to start banning SWAT teams. They are an absolute menace to society.

I'm guessing that you're a shooter (not a big stretch for "precisionshootist"). I know SWAT members and see them at the range, and I'm surprised you don't meet them at the range too. Most are normal, good, decent people. It's only a small fraction who are a menace to society. Even a fraction is too many, but those individuals would still be a menace even if they were regular police. It's problem individuals who are a threat, not the unit they belong to.

I agree. You have a good point that it could be self-inflicted. If that’s the case, he’s guilty of a false report and should be fully prosecuted.

Believe me, I have no sympathy for Hogg. He’s a complete jerk. But we got to where we are today because there is one form of “justice” for “special people” and a different kind for the rest of us. It’s very tempting to look the other way when someone you dislike is mistreated, but tomorrow it could be someone you like or it could be you. I’d love to see Hogg behind bars, but as long as he hasn’t committed a crime, I would defend him, despite his being a total jerk. (Of course if there were other people who needed help and defending, I might prioritize my time in their favor.....)

Yes on both counts. Yes I do see and them and know some of them. It makes no difference how many are in fact good people, many of them are. It's the existence of SWAT in itself that is the problem. Innocent citizens are in great danger because of the mere existence of these teams that by nature are going to abuse power. Analyzing each members motives is worthless as it will not bring innocent dead citizens back to life. Our constitution does not permit no knock raids or most any action by a standing para military force.

The Police should be banned from the possession of ANY military weapons, training or equipment of any kind. The police should dress in blue and only blue. There is no situation that cannot be handled with civilian weapons such as the Ruger Mini 14 and the Mossberg 500 shotgun. The days of cops playing army in our neighborhoods carrying full auto M4 carbines and H&K sub machine guns with suppressors must stop now. Our communities are NOT BATTLEFIELDS !!

I disagree, I think every last politician and Judge should be swatted REGULARLY, they are the ones that gave us this Blatantly Unconstitutional Act of SWAT teams breaking in doors and murdering innocent people.

I would investigate this one really good. Who gains from the publicity surrounding this? David Hogg gets a lot of free press coverage from this when people were beginning to stop paying attention. Why would somebody opposed to his agenda pull this stunt? I do not think his opposition would provide free press for this clown. Look at him hard!

I just told my wife about this headline and, at the same time, we both said we wouldn't put it past Hogg to do this so he could claim pro-gun people are even more terrible.
