Meghan Markle is descended from Scottish hero Robert the Bruce, it has emerged.
The royal bride-to-be can trace her family back to the Scottish king who won independence from England at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
The link between royal families seven centuries apart is revealed in Andrew Morton's new book Hollywood Princess, according to The Sun.
Mr Morton said: 'It is possible to trace a direct line through 25 generations to Robert I of Scotland, perhaps the most colourful of all Scottish kings.

Oh give me a break. It’s the “commoners” who look these things up. Clearly the royals didn’t have a clue about this until AFTER the wedding, so it didn’t make a difference to them. People are just interested in genealogy, that’s all. The same genealogists usually trace US presidents back to royals somewhere (hey, the royalty had LOTS of kids, illegitimate and not!) So what? All in good fun.
ALL of us are probably related to some royal over the last few thousands of years. So what?

There are a billion people who are descendants of Charlemagne (essentially, one third of the world’s population) and one out of every 8 Americans is a descendant of one of the Mayflower passengers. Descent isn’t that big a deal, and before DNA, proving it was! And, BTW, there were several Robert The Bruces.
There have been tons of kings all over the world over the millenia.
Take Robert Brucie - he lived 700 years ago. That's about 28 generations -- he has at least 268 million people who have some form of descent from him, assuming that he and subsequent generations had only 2 kids each (and in reality they had more).
No. I got all of you beat. True American royalty here. My great, great, great aunt Martha married a Parks, nee mom. Upon his death she inherited his ten thousand acre estate on the eastern shore of MD/VA. George Washington then married Martha thereby becoming the largest landholder in the colonies. This according to my grandfather, an inveterate story teller.

A few thousand? Shoot. Try a few dozen or less. I’m related to Robert the Bruce. He’s my 23rd G-Grandfather. You really don’t have to go back too far to find a common ancestor. So, when I go back to Robert (25 generations), I’ve had 33 million great grandparents and so have you. Chances are really good one of those have overlapped somewhere.
I caught that as well. Brits can’t help themselves.
