Subtropical Storm Alberto is picking up a little speed and getting slightly stronger as it continues moving north in the Gulf of Mexico toward the Florida Panhandle, the National Hurricane Center said in a 7 a.m. update Sunday (May 27).
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and was moving north at 15 mph, the report said. It was located about 165 miles southwest of Tampa, Fla.
A turn toward the north-northwest at a slower forward speed is forecast Sunday night.
A north-northwestward to northward motion is expected Tuesday through early Wednesday, the Hurricane Center said.
On the forecast track, the center of Alberto will cross the eastern and northern Gulf of Mexico Sunday and approach the northern Gulf Coast Sunday night or Monday.
Heavy rainfall and tropical storm conditions will likely reach the northern Gulf Coast well before the arrival of the center of Alberto, the advisory said. It is expected to move northward into the Tennessee Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Subtropical?” I guess that’s more scarier than Tropical Depression.
I thought names weren’t assigned until they were tropical storms? Are the weather mavens worried about not being able to breathlessly report on a named storm every day?
Local weather here in Hotlanta says we will have rain Tuesday and Wednesday with brief spin up tornados. That said they’ve been calling for a wash out every day for the last 2 weeks and I’ve had rain for 3 of those days.
Im 57 and NOW WE HAVE sub-tropical CRAP.!
Get a life weather jurks.
I live in Clearwater and my phone is sending me high wind/flood/tropical storm warnings approximately ever 37 seconds. I think we’ve gotten about an inch of rain in the past 36 hours and no wind to speak of.
Two weeks ago I was in the ring of fire and experienced a nice, mild 4.4 earthquake. I had to come back home and got here just in time to batten things down for Alberto. From earthquakes to hurricanes, life is exciting.
I love storms. I have not run yet. Katrina sucked though.
We in Tampa got rained on...we were out biking when the rain came down...
You got it. I Think we’ll eventually see a time when they start naming all bad weather events. Even small rainstorms.
Sub-Tropical Storm Vs. Tropical Storm
Whats The Difference?
Good news for the MS Gulf Coast - we’re now down to a chance at a third of an inch of rain from the storm - they declared a state of emergency for an event that will have a tenth the effects of the average thunderstorm....
1. CAGW global warming hype requires there be more hurricanes and weather disasters.
2. More hurricanes = More budgets and more publicity and power for the “experts” and NHC.
exactly. we live in west Hall county north of Atlanta and I had to water the garden yesterday.
we shall see.
Can you believe this? 45 mile an hour winds. That’s a strong thunderstorm..
You can sell more ads if you have a named “storm”.
