Maybe some pre-1996 refrigerators were thrown away. This stuff was used in millions of tings, so I’m not going to panic. Impressive they can measure the release, though.

ISIS and even governments like the Paks are into anything that makes them money, legal or not. Likewise some Chinese who will be involved in anything that makes them money even when they know there’s a death penalty for dealing in it and people are routinely executed when caught.

The Chinese using it in large building water chillers? It’s a really good, efficient refrigerant.

China, of course. They produce twice as much pollution as the U.S., yet they’re exempt from scrutiny by the AGW alarmists. They put lead in kid’s toys, drugs in food, and poison in medicine they export to everyone else. What do they care about the ozone layer?

a source coming from somewhere in eastern Asia, but scientists could not narrow the area down any further.

They mean China, but don't have the 'nads to come out and say so. Scientists only hate America.

So, everyone was making and using this stuff at one time and there was a possible problem ozone wise and now “someone somewhere” is cheating and it has a measurable impact? Bullshit.

The scientists don’t know exactly who, or where,

Aliens transforming our atmosphere in preparation for their invasion........They tried it before but got caught.

“I’ve been making these measurements for more than 30 years, and this is the most surprising thing I’ve seen,” said Stephen Montzka, a scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who led the work. “I was astounded by it, really.”

Naive little baby. There are countries manufacturing nuclear weaponry in full-view in violation of international arms agreements. There are other countries that secretly counterfeit US Currency in violation of our laws. There are people who manufacture Meth in their basements. Is it really so hard to believe that some group might earning some black market currency selling banned CFC's?

Maybe the earlier numbers were fixed. Not that they would rig numbers.

Scientists discount God as a player.

:: alarmed by a growing “ozone hole” ::

Thank you, Mr. Editor for using quotes here.

Years before the Montreal Protocol, it was discovered that the sensitive ozone layer ^over the Antarctic^ was not complete and the area free of O3 appeared to be growing. Later, it appeared to be closing (yet never quite closing altogether. Then, OMG, it’s growing again!)

Scientists diligently determined that certain CFRs consumed ozone and therefor MUST be contributing to the “hole”.

What was never explained was 1) was the “hole” closed at anytime BEFORE it was discovered? 2) why is the “hole” only over the Antarctic? and, 3) what is the dynamic that causes the “hole”?

In my opinion, “science ngo-s” assumed a problem then assumed it was anthropogenic and went out and found a conclusion to match their hypothesis. Voila! No more efficient refrigerants for you!

China, of course. They never stopped making the old freon refrigerants. And why should they? The old stuff works considerably better than the new stuff and is less toxic. And it is cheaper, since the patents expired decades ago.

It was always about the patents. The new refrigerants are all patented with considerable royalties going to the patent holders.

The "Ozone Hole" was a scam to justify forced conversion to the new refrigerants - and payments to the companies that owned the patents. Those same companies funded (and continue to fund) the "scientific research" that raises alarms about "ozone depletion".

The Chinese simply are not playing along with the game. These latest "studies" are a warning shot to the Chinese by the current patent holders.

Not at all.

An attempt to throw smoke and mirrors in front of reality.
The human caused ozone scare was the scientifically laughable manufactured crisis that preceded the anthropogenic global warming scam. In actuality the ozone layer is periodically thinned by chlorine thrown into the upper atmosphere by volcanic eruptions.

The driving force behind the ozone scam was that R12 had outlived patentability.
