A Metra track inspector and two mechanics have been paid a total of $1.2 million in overtime in the past five years.
That payout, one lawmaker tells 2 Investigator Brad Edward, is out of control.
Theres excessive overtime being paid, says State Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove). That creates mistrust from taxpayers.
In all, Metras overtime costs soared above $119 million from 2013 to 2017, according to interviews and records. 2 Investigators counted 351 employees who earned at least $100,000 in that span. Topping the list is a mechanic who earned more than $366,000 in overtime.
I think that its really outrageous, Olsen says. Those are staggering numbers.
Metra denied our request to interview CEO James Derwinski. [ ]
Last year, Metra made an effort to save on overtime, when it paid over $500,000 for a shooting range. The agency estimated it would save $120,000 annually on police overtime.

I know States are not allowed to declare bankruptcy, but I still want to see a full-fledged budget crisis, debt default, crisis and shutdown in Illinois
Its really the only way to fix government. Democracy has become one-party rule, gamed by special interests - and it has failed.
[I]t is very clear that in fundamental theory, socialism and democracy are almost, if not quite, one and the same. They both rest at bottom upon the absolute right of the community to determine its own destiny and that of its members. Men as communities are supreme over men as individuals. This is the endgame of Wilsonian thinking. (Wilson was the first president in the USAs history to nationalize the countrys railroads, too.)
Woodrow Wilson, Socialism and Democracy
I don’t think that is possible. It comes out to about $250 a day in overtime, 365 days a year for 4 years.
I dont think that is possible.
This is a local unit of government in Chicago. Anything is possible.

One weekend, power problems or the like his a server farm, and he gets called in. Only fixes what's on the call, even though he can see that other machines are down.
Goes down the street to a bar, and has a beer, waiting for next group to notice their equipment is down, etc., ...ka-ching, ...ka-ching...
I'm not surprised at Metra. Probably multi unions involved, not to mention featherbedding, and "scheduling" problems adding the hours.
Janitors on San Francisco’s BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) have gotten over $270K a year in one year with overtime added in (about $160K of that is overtime).
Today Rush mentioned Chicago Fed met with Chicago politicians and I believe assessments on properties in Chicago are going up 1% per year for 30 years. All for those retired pensions.
Didn’t Michele Obama make about $350,000 per year for a Chicago hospital, doing heaven knows what? Sure hope it wasn’t brain surgery, although she was making a Surgeon’s salary.
Anyone who hasn't left Illinois needs to have their head examined.
I just rechecked— those assessments are for the entire state.
Dude, ya think?
In any case, that ship sailed long ago.
Doesn’t matter how good they are.
At those prices they are unaffordable.
Hope the FIBs don’t come to WI. We love our open spaces, our guns, our Governor, and our GOP state majority.
haven't let YET ... two reasons for staying: 1) mother-in-law still alive, AND 2) no state income tax on retirement income
