CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- Officials said a woman was attacked and killed by a neighbor's dogs on Thursday night.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said the victim -- whose name has not yet been released -- was attacked by seven dogs and later died from her injuries.
Bryant said the incident happened before 10 p.m. at a residence just east of Ardmore on Banyon Road. He said one of the dogs was a pit bull; the others were medium-sized dogs of other breeds, all with the same owner.
"Once we were notified that this female had succumbed to her injuries, the owner of the dogs decided to put the dogs down," Sheriff Bryant said.
There have been no arrests. Bryant said he believes the victim lived in the area of the attack.
"It's really scary because my kids play out here all the time," one neighbor told KTEN. "Even if I'm out here with them, it's just scary having dogs roaming around attacking people."
There is no "leash law" in unincorporated areas of Carter County.
"Most municipalities do, but the county does not," Sheriff Bryant said. "Just be aware your your surroundings and if you have any issues with livestock or animals or anything like that, please give us a call."

Thank you. Some people believed for a time that I was Chet99. I am not.
Hmm. I believe this is more along the lines of manslaughter, but I am not an attorney.
“The owners need to be put down too for murder”
Sounds like white trashiness of the first order. Filthy bastard.
“Unlike wolves who have a natural fear of man, dogs have none.”
I don’t know about that. People in wolf country aren’t quite so sanguine.

I stand corrected. Anton. was involved in a dog mauling Oklahoma City in 2017.
Pit bulls are dangerous. <— period They’re descendents of dogs bred for war and in today’s world there are still some bred for dog fighting.
Arrogant people take these dogs in as pets. Some get lucky and some get not so lucky.
Whatever you think you know about dogs and pit bulls goes out the window when dogs travel in packs. The more dogs the more dangerous. Pitbulls will inevitably become the alpha male and when they attack, all the other dogs will likely attack too. Including fluffy, your adorable Bichon.
Owners who let pit bulls out to roam the neighborhood are idiots. No matter how gentle they think their dog is.
It’s simple. You want to own a pit bull or some breed similar or mixed go build a 7’ fence and have gates with locks on them.
I would choose to actually eradicate the breed.
Negligent homicide
My neighbor has a pit bull. It wants to kill me and the feeling is mutual.
Yes, I understand it wants to protect its territory, but it seems to believe that my back yard is included in that territory.
If it ever gets loose, it will come after me. One of us will die.
I thought you might be(;/)
my ex neighbor had some pits that kept jumping against my wood fence trying to get to my dog. I advised him if his dogs hurt or killed my dog or myself, I would do the same to him as he was responsible for them. He chained his dogs up and shortly thereafter moved.
Another reason for concealed carry- to thwart four legged terrorist attacks.
Many years ago a co worker moved to rural Shelbyville KY. His two huskies attacked and killed a neighbor's cow.........
I’m not who you’re asking but I’ve seen enough to be leery of even going for a walk down the street where I know I could encounter one. Would that be considered an obsession, or simply self-preservation instincts? I mean, when we allow people to own what has proven to be a dangerous animal and enough of them do for some odd reason, it does tend to stay in the back of one’s mind.
Pit bulls and a few other dog breeds, snakes, lions, tigers, bears, and similar animals are PROVEN dangerous and ought to at the very least require strict licensing, secured spaces, inspection, and huge liability insurance.
My opinion is anyone keeping such dangerous “pets” has serious mental problems.
A gun won’t turn on you by itself but an animal certainly can.
Persons acquainted with or certainly active in ranching and farming are acquainted with the problems and hazards of wild dogs running in packs. They take down livestock and are more dangerous than coyotes. In our case, the beat up ranch pickup and pretty much all the neighbor ranch's trucks I was acquainted with had a gun rack in the back window with a rifle at the ready. We shot stray dogs on sight. Occasionally, the Winchester would be in a scabbard when using a horse when we were doing something like riding a few miles of fence or checking some more remote corners that you otherwise had to go in on foot. I still have that 30-30 Winchester and have taken several deer with it. I imagine most ranchers now would choose something on the AR platform to get better range and accuracy.
Our last ranch dog was was a mutt that was a cross bred standard collie with a Saint Bernard. Biggest damn collie you ever saw with a working dog's instinct to protect the cattle and people too if it ever came to that. We rarely saw coyotes but for the occasional wild dog singles or packs, I never saw any willing to stand up to our dog. When they saw that big dog coming off they'd go running. He'd run them till the pack crossed the fence line then stop - His job was done. I saw the picture of the seven dogs and they were either ill bred pitbulls or mix breed pits. I hope the owner faces some prison time. This is nothing less than murder on their part.
No place for pit bulls or other attack dogs in normal conditions. Area wide leash laws are needed if owners cant be responsible. Dog packs are eventually dangerous and that includes too many “pets” which are often just a bunch of fed undisciplined mutts.
There is no place, use or need for these dog packs people keep.
