Dubai missing princess: Call for clarity on status of Sheikha Latifa
bbc ^

Sheikha Latifa - the daughter of the Emirate's ruler - is said to have tried to flee in March in order to live a freer life abroad.

But witnesses say the luxury yacht she was travelling on was intercepted off India, and she was returned to Dubai. She has not been seen since.

Dubai's authorities say they cannot comment for legal reasons.

Sheikha Latifa, the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was snatched while trying to escape the country, according to reports.

A BBC Newsnight investigation, which was broadcast on Friday, claimed she had received the help of a former French spy and a Finnish martial arts instructor.

She’s probably a head shorter by now.

She took a slow boat to flee?

Modern aircraft do exist, including jets.

I remember the video as well. If I remember correctly she was in fear for her life and did not expect to be seen again.

To be honest I thought it was hoax at first and she must be a damn good actress. I figured it out it wasn’t. As a disclaimer I saw it immediately after it came out on a site called liveleak. There was a debate as to the legitimacy of it as there are a lot of hoaxes and disinformation perpetuated on liveleak.

Here is a good account of her disappearance: Sheikha Latifa.

It reads like a James Bond 007 plot. Very weird international goings on involving the India navy, Dubai "navy", a French national, a Finnish national, and an American registered ship. It would make a pretty good movie.

Whenever something gets censored on YouTube, Liveleak is the first place I go to look for it.

Yes, they do have jets, but security in airports in the Middle East,(i.e. Emirates, Qatar, Arabia), are orders of magnitude higher than they are here. If you haven’t traveled there you can’t appreciate the scrutiny you get.

Being who she was, they would have never allowed her to board an aircraft to anywhere without the approval of her family. A boat was her only method of escape.

Live leak is a good source for things going on around the world that we never see. You just have to wade through the garbage. It's also a good source to see unedited things as they happen. This video is a good example.

When it came out whomever posted it had "is this a hoax" in the headline. I watched it. A few days later it was all over the place.

Yes, it was her only hope, and she nearly escaped.

This is a tragic case, and I am surprised that there is not more international coverage of the story.
