A helpful FReeper passed along the following link to a group that goes live on Youtube when Q drops are released. Each live stream video remains active as long as they have new insights or information or guests to share information. Q "drops" (i.e., posts) can be read with their original formatting on various websites. Sometimes the Q drop websites come under cyber attack or stop updating. This week, I've been using the following link:

Q drops (i.e., posts) often use unfamiliar acronyms. Swordmaker maintains a list of acronym definitions to help FReepers understand Q drop text. I’ll need to brush up on EMP event effects, but right now not convinced it will be that devastating.

I don’t know what other manufacturers do for circuit protection, but I can speak with authority about the company I currently work for(a lighting manufacturer) and what we do about “immunity”.

The Cliff Notes: we test samples to 20,000 volt surge protection (when specified) along with two other “dirty power” surge injection tests at lower levels. All three tests have fairly long durations one of them being 56 minutes.

A fourth test...electrostatic discharge or ESD...is an injected static spark at various points within the fixture with the fixture’s power supply getting the most abuse. The ESD test can be as high as 15,000 volts...depends on what the product is marketed for. Electrical utility companies are the most stringent.

All of these tests are danged tough. I am constantly amazed at how well the samples hold up during this abuse. So I’m confident our lighting will hold up during an EMP but don’t know about the electric service going TO the fixture.
