The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be gardening.
Dear Mzz Wisconsin... It is with some sadness that I must inform you that such Garden Porn will not be tolerated out here on the shores of Humboldt Bay!!!
ps YES I’M JEALOUS
The white hoops are out and cages set in for the “big” tomatoes. We put the fence in for the Amish Paste tomatoes which are an indeterminate variety.
Peppers are under attack so we brought out the Seven powder.
One cuke didn't make it so we bought a replacement from the Farris veggie store here.
Farris had a dozen monster $30 tomatoes. I asked the owner if they were selling. She said she had sold two thus far...
Thanks again !
The air is filled with dogwood & redbud perfume.
Our Daffodils bloomed out a month ago but the Rhodies are starting to bloom, as a matter of fact today kicked off the week long Rhododendron Festival with a parade and 2 huge plant sales and a antique show and sale...
Don’t be too jealous - it WAS part of the ‘Make or Break’ DEAL I struck with Beau, as I was leaving my other greenhouse behind for the new owners of my farm. It only took him a year to get to it, too!
He makes all of my dreams, Big and Small, come true! Happy, Happy! :)
Wow! Your space and garden blows my mind! Have fun and happy harvesting!
I can now say that for SW Montana, also!
LMAO !!!
Been there, done that !!
Extra fiber for soil building ! HA ! , Ha !, ha !
We got a phone call about 10 P.M. from the Rapid City Post Office, telling me that my bees, which weren’t supposed to be shipped before today, and really not expected to ship until 5/12, had just arrived from Georgia.
They’ll be at our local Post Office Monday morning. I still need to build the platform to place the hive on. At least I have the spot picked, and have materials on hand to do it.
This evening, I got my peas planted, and mulched the garlic & onion sets.
It appears that bees have turned the corner from the Colony Collapse disease. I’ve seen more honey bees than normal so far this spring season, which is a good thing! Saw my first Bumble Bee, yesterday.
Wisconsin bee keepers take their bees up north to Warren, WI where the Cranberry Bogs are and release them to pollinate the cranberries when they’re in bloom. I think we’re #2 (behind Maine) in cranberry production, we alternate with Idaho for potatoes and CA for milk. :)
I really regret not taking all of the beehives & equipment offered me by a friend years ago!
Would love to see pictures or read more description when you’re up and running! :)
We may not have honey, but we make our own Maple Syrup, which is sticky fun. ;)
Today’s the day I start moving all of my gardening ‘stuff’ out from under the basement stairs and get serious about life, LOL!
(Pray for me!) ;)
Temps went down to 34 degrees last night in western PA so I brought in the two potted green plants I bought for the patio. Temps for the coming week are still iffy at night although it warms up to the sixties in daytime.
Three cheers for the bees, hehe! I’m seeing them around the dogwood trees in my area of western PA.
Ruh Oh. Guess you’ll be pretty busy this weekend. I think we are finally past the frosty nights here. At least I hope so.
We think we are going to even out in the 50s or 40s going forward. So transplanting will begin shortly - gotta let the soil dry out.
