NJ.com Published on Apr 24, 2018 Caren Z. Turner, a Democratic lobbyist from Tenafly, has resigned as a commissioner from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, after an investigation was opened into what agency officials would only describe as "profoundly disturbing conduct." Turner's resignation allegedly involved her intervention in a recent traffic stop in connection with her daughter. Turner apparently flashed her Port Authority badge in an effort to intercede with police officers on the scene.

The average salary of the Port Authority’s workforce exceeded $100,000 last year, fueled by sky-high overtime run up by the bi-state agency’s police officers, a report released Tuesday reveals.

One in 10 Port Authority cops — a total of 170 out of 1,649 — was paid more than $200,000, according to figures compiled by the Empire Center for Public Policy.

Of the 36 workers making more than $250,000, 25 were cops.

The OT champ at the agency was chief maintenance supervisor Stephen Olmo, who racked up $186,846 in extra pay to boost his total income to $325,880 — more than PA executive director Pat Foye’s $305,111.

The highest-paid PA worker was real estate and development chief Michael Francois, who made $366,698.

He was followed by police Lt. Joseph Macaluso ($348,095) and Sgt. Kevin Cottrell ($343,335).

The average PA salary increased from $97,673 in 2014 to $100,253 last year.

Average OT for the entire workforce was $14,924.

Average OT for police was $29,931.

A PA spokesman said in a statement: “In 2015, the Port Authority reduced its core overtime hours by 11 percent compared to 2014 levels through continued management to ensure efficient and effective use of staff hours, within the constraints of expired collective bargaining agreements that govern overtime for represented employees.

“Overtime represents approximately 17 percent of the Agency’s total labor expenses, before taking into account grants and other reimbursements, and take into account heightened security events, such as last September’s Papal visit and our security precautions following November’s Paris attacks, and numerous weather events early last year are factors that drive overtime for police and operations personnel.

“Moving forward, the agency is undertaking several additional initiatives including the hiring of 250 more police officers, assessing department workloads and existing staffing levels and looking at scheduling of existing staff, all with the focus on continuing to reduce overtime in the coming years.”

The cops probably scanned the license plate and checked the state database. They found the registration was expired, so they stopped the car.

While pay for P/A workers is astronomic, Commissioners are in a class by themselves.

Thy are treated like royalty b/c they are politically connected.

Their perks alone are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars each.

The police showed incredible restraint. If I, as a male, stood in an officers space and f-bombed him, I would be cuffed and stuffed before I knew it.

In regards to this Liberal POS scumbag, she epitomizes NJ politics and what's wrong with this country. Imagine a President like her. That would have been Hillary Clinton.

Another reason to be thank God Hillary lost.......Turner would have been burrowed in the federal system, eternally sucking up tax dollars, throwing her weight around.

NO WONDER that MY uninsured motorist coverage is 47% + of my premium. I have not had an accident since Oct 1966, and no tickets for over 18 years.

They say it was “profoundly disturbing”, but does anyone actually believe this conduct was somehow unusual or out of character for her? She looks to me as if this was a very well practiced routine for her. BOWs.

There is this air of incredulity, where it’s just somehow beyond the pale that MIT students on Easter weekend could somehow be held to the same standards as anybody else, namely, keep up on tags, registration, and insurance. They don’t seem particularly bright to me. I like how the Commish just sashayed up and expected all of this to go away by flashing a badge. F’in pathetic.

The main police guy was a very cool cutomer. He realized he was dealing with a nutter throwing her political hack weight around so he began to view it as a game where she would get nothing/zip/zero/nada from him, while he would not let her provoke him to the point where he might be disciplined or lose his job.

He gave her enough rope to hang herself....and captured on video.

No one get appointed to these bllshit “Authorities” in NY, NJ, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts etc. unless they are a well connected hack. They are also hiring halls for the worthless, dumbass offspring of well connected hacks. You don’t get a job there unless you “know someone”. All jobs are plum jobs with very good pay/bennies/retirement compared to the dreaded private sector.

And she’s the ethics chair. LOL

I’m pretty sure the egocentric display of this chick has put a severe crimp in having the title of “P/A Commissioner.”

Why the hell are the commissioners issued gold badges? I am sure it was done so they could attempt to use their position to try to get out of tickets etc. in this case, the officer was not intimidated.

She was booted from her lucrative no-show job which had a much larger sting. She could have ridden her (only hacks may apply) Port Authority job to a very nice retirement. So its all good plus this heinous hack was a Hillary fund raiser.

Hasta La Vista useless eater!

My guess is primarily to intimidate the lower ranking hacks who work for the Port Authority. And sometimes to jam police who stop them for infractions. Parking tickets too via always pretending (lying) to be on official business. Gold badge being like a get of jail free card.
