Apparently that is the condition of it without any effort to clean it up.

I would suspect it is good luck for all divers to rub the bell............................

It’s not likely that there have been any other divers down there at that depth in those temps. The author noted the extreme risk and the fact that they had only 25 minutes to get their pics and leave. No time for fooling around.

You can see some specks of algae on the bell though even though almost nothing grows in that anaerobic environment. Even the wood has zero rot in it.

Thank you for this post. Absolutely breathtaking after all these years. With the sad news from Tennessee and now Toronto of human tragedy. Mindless needless murder, this graphic view has made a welcome respite.

At least for a little while.

no plant life in those waters??

You might think of Lake Superior as America's largest outdoor air conditioner.

One time I went camping on the shores of Superior during the summer, when it was 100F in Minneapolis. That night on the lake, it was so cold, I could see my breath.

Superior still has major ice on it, btw. Not even all the lakes in the Twin Cities are ice free, yet.

Must’ve had electricity wired aboard? Electric table-top fan inside?

I caught that fan sitting there, too.

I have a Westinghouse that looks like that one. Had no idea it could've been as old as 1911. 'Runs real quiet, bought at a yard sale.
