On Tuesday night (April 23), President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will welcome Emmanuel Macron, president of France, and his wife, Brigitte, for the first state visit of the Trump administration.
According to a press release from the first lady's office, every aspect of the visit was "all carefully selected by First Lady Melania Trump, to complement and pay homage to the long-standing friendship between the United States and France."
Let's get to the most important matter: what are they eating?
The main course, we're happy to report, will include jambalaya, "which will be cooked in a New Orleans tradition and scented with the trinity of Cajun cooking -- celery, peppers, and onions, and spiced with herbs from the South Lawn."
Fingers crossed the White House chefs know to use green bell peppers.
The menu doesn't indicate if the jambalaya has sausage or seafood. Let's hope the Trumps' jambalaya isn't just a pilaf.
See the full menu below.
First Course: Goat Cheese Gateau, omato Jam, Buttermilk Biscuit Crumbles, Young Variegated Lettuces
Main Course: Rack of Spring Lamb, Burnt Cipollini Soubise, Carolina Gold Rice Jambalaya
Dessert: Nectarine Tart, Crème Fraîche Ice Cream

Yep - and the Cajuns brought some gunpowder to the party.
Around 50 years ago, after hearing the Hank Williams song, I asked my parents about it. They both were familiar with Jambalaya and File Gumbo, but they had never heard of anyone eating Crawfish Pie.
They also were familiar with Poke Salad which they said was more popular up North than in the South.
I am pretty sure Mother said that File was a spice made from Sassafras leaves but my memory could be off.
They both grew up in the Florida Panhandle and were not familiar with Cajun Culture but apparently some of it was just Southern.
Memories! When I was deployed to Central Asia our N’awlins mess sergeant turned out unbelievable jambalaya every Sunday.
Or was it gumbo? Difference is how the rice is served, mon.
Anyway, `bon appetit’, Mr. President!
whats burnt cipellini soubise??
I am pretty sure Mother said that File was a spice made from Sassafras leaves but my memory could be off.
It is indeed ground Sassafras leaves. It adds flavor and is a mild thickening agent.

Of course those butts Andy kicked were the same English that had kicked a whole lot of French butts in Spain during the Napoleonic wars.
Would make an interesting alternative history to have Wellington instead of Packenham commanding at New Orleans.
Old Andy would of had his hands full.
And there would be a Sharpe novel about it!
You are correct.
"Animal House" - Bluto: Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor??
and THAT’S what really makes it jambalaya. Most of the rest of the ingredients are staples or whatever you could catch that day and leftovers.
and for desert.......some of “Justin Tubbs “ Gumbo, made with his special Rhue.
Sometimes I just don’t think. All I had to was sing the Johnny Horton song.
“In 1814 we took a little trip
And we fought the bloody British on the mighty Mississipp.’
Read the Sharpe series when it 1st came out. Just re-read the whole thing a few years ago. GREAT series.
Between that and the Aubery books by Patrick Obrian hard to say which is better.
He whipped the English redcoats, not the French.
Bump for Bernard Cornwell!
Agree!
Have you read any of Cornwell's other works? The Saxon series is outstanding, his Arthurian series is the best handling of those legends I've ever read.
Long as he doesn’t tell him he looks like Al Pacino.
“No okra?”
Yep - cajun, not creole.
