Slidell woman used stolen ID to get 6-figure job; faces 10 years in prison

A 41-year-old Slidell woman faces up to 10 years in prison after being convicted of stealing another woman's identity via social media and using fake credentials to obtain a high paying job at the spice company founded by the late entrepreneur Al Copeland.

Cindy T. White, who was found guilty this week by a St. Tammany Parish jury of theft of identity over $1,000, will be sentenced Tuesday (April 24) by Judge Scott Gardner of the 22nd Judicial District, North Shore District Attorney Warren Montgomery's office reported.

During her opening statement in White's trial, Assistant District Attorney Casey Dieck described the credentials that White had listed on her resume, including a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and a master's degree from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Pointing to the defendant in the courtroom, Dieck said, "That's not this person. This person stole the victim's hard work and used it to get a six-figure salary and benefits to boot," the District Attorney's Office reported in a news release issued Friday.

The crime came to light in April of 2016 when a Diversified Foods employee contacted the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office regarding White, who had provided a resume with fraudulent social security and driver's license numbers to obtain an executive level job. White had been hired in September 2015 as a human resources manager at the company's Covington office at a salary of $95,000 per year. Five months later, she was promoted to senior human resources director and her annual pay was raised to $105,000, the District Attorney's Office reported.

Company officials became suspicious when White had trouble "performing duties within the educational level and experience listed on her resume" and when she began delegating many tasks assigned to her, according to the DA's news release.

She got the job and even got a raise before they became suspicious of her. I think there is a reason.

It's scary how easy this lady was able to steal the identity. SSN,drivers license number, etc. I guess it shouldn't surprise me how easy it was.

A good executive does delegate authority. She got caught when she stopped doing that. Probably happened when someone was out on vacation and she was shorthanded.

Hats off to Diversified Foods .... for checking the validation of their employee’s resume. Hospitals should do this especially with Doctors that they hire.

Sounds like most of the HR department needs to be sacked and that they need to start over. Probably a few other execs need to get some help finding the door, as well. Tulane isn't so far down the street that they should have had any trouble vetting her.

Surprise, surprise. I guessed right - an affirmative action hire. a master's degree from Hebrew University in Jerusalem

To quote from the movie Cabaret, "She doesn't look Jewish to me".

More likely, a mistreated employee decided to check her out, and blew the whistle. Mere incompetence won't get an AA fired. You just learn to work around the problem.

Or perhaps a Tulane classmate noticed a difference in appearance. Was the victim of the identity theft even Black?

In any event, crime isn't unknown in the New Orleans law enforcement community. Sounded like her previous job might have been a better fit.

ALL employers should be doing this in regards to illegal aliens as well.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
Hospitals go through a very lengthy process of credentialing physicians to practice within their organizations. The same is true for the state in which the physician practices, and the same with all insurance co. that would pay insurance claims for the services of that physician. All credential physicians independently of each other.

How is this one Mr. Unique???

Yea, I figured there was a reason for her rapid advancement. Smart, educated blacks folks are heavily sought after and have the pick of jobs.

Big deal. The vast majority of corporate senior managers are not qualified for their jobs.

What, you’re saying she’s not Al Copeland material?

Maybe she could get in at Brand Leland. Leland wants everyone in the conference room now!

Not qualified for their jobs and they get big bonuses and severance pay when they muck up.

HR Departments are where they dump most of the “Affirmative Action” hires.

"Was that wrong? Should I have not done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, ‘cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time."

That is a truthful statement as any.

The brain-deadness of the typical in-charge type never ceases to amaze me. One reason I enjoy the Dilbert comics where the PHB is shown for the useless fool that he is.

A couple years ago, my company hired this guy for a middle management job. Middles aged white fellow. Seemed like a decent fellow.

He lasted maybe three days.

Fraudulent driver’s license, suspect education, and rumored facebook stalker.
