On three or four occasions my cell phone number has been hijacked in someway that I have received phone calls and text messages as though it would seem from myself.
Yesterday, the text message I received from myself and the image associated with the non-person who used my cellphone number to send me a text message used an image which I have saved on the cell phone.
WHAT THE HECK? ANY SUGGESTIONS?
It’s quite possible that all that is really happening is they are overlaying the sending number with the sent to number. I know that telemarketers can now call you and have caller ID replicate the area code and first three digits of your phone number. In fact, it’s how I know it’s telemarketers. If the number is local, but I’ve not assigned a person to it already, it’s always either a telemarketer or a wrong number. If it IS someone I know, they’ll leave a message.
I got 80-90 different (!!!) calls from my Prefix Number.
Keep blocking each, then get another one *EVERY* week or less!
FOR THE PAST 1 1/2 YEARS!!!
WHAT is it & WHY don’t it STOP?!?!?
OR..... How do I get it to stop??
THAT is freaky.
I got a call one time from my own home phone number. A few minutes later about 10 people called me saying I called them. I have a call blocker attached to my phone and keep blocking the spoofed numbers. Although I had to block a lot at first, it has eased up a lot using this blocker. Most of the spoofed numbers give a city and state and have a long “V” number at the top of the phone number, which I understand is a telemarketer dialer number. Since it is electronic and computer generated, they can put any number into it. Scroll down to “Pat Kelley” on this page and the person describes what happens:

It isnt really hijacking in that sense. They are feeding false source number information to the phone company. That number is unrelated to billing, but is the number reported in caller ID. They are relying on functionality in place to allow companies which have a range of phone numbers to display a unified call-back number.
I have an iPhone and block any telemarketers but don’t get many on that phone. I bought this call blocker for my home phone which was getting bombarded and it helped a lot.

Someone has you phone SIM card details. Visit your cell carrier and get a new card. The SIM card connects your phone to the carrier and network. If someone replicates your card or gets the card I’d number their phone becomes you.
They arent stealing the numbers, theyre just misidentifying who they are. They dont even have to know who you are, but simply use an auto dialer and inject the called number as the source numbers ID.
I have had them call me from my local area code. They say they scan the phone directory to get a number they can use. Then they call from that number.
They will call you as soon as you get done using your phone. Somehow, they know you used your phone and call as soon as it has become hot-hot number I guess they say it is.
You dont. Its that plain and simple and if anything these scum politicians could do is, get to hell together and make this crap illegal.
99.99999% of these calls are scam.
do you sleepwalk? Maybe you’re doing it to yourself.

It isn’t exactly stealing numbers. They use robot calls that dial all numbers. Do NOT answer.
You should have told her you’re the Dist. Attorney and would be filing charges.
I don’t answer the home phone. If someone really wants to talk to me, they can leave a message. Doing that has made life easier these days.
Only a handful of people know the cell number and it’s an old flip phone so no apps on it. On the rare occasion there’s an unknown number calling, I simply don’t answer it. It isn’t even turned on 98% of the time. Again, life is easier. Knock on wood.
HA! I have not had a home phone in over a decade. :)
One funny thing is that, because all of our internet at home in the sticks is through a mobile hotspot, our “my-fi” adaptor had a phone number, but obviously it could not receive calls. But it failed so I just pulled out my old LG-G3 as our mobile hotspot at home for our TV and all computers. It gets lots of phone calls now. It’s irrelevant because the ringer and vibrator are both turned off, but it “misses” a ton of calls.:)
It’s cheaper to have a home phone that you can hear all over the house rather than rely on a cell. Plus, I don’t enjoy hanging out the window to get a signal on cold nights.
I stopped in at the local AT&T.
They verified it’s not the SIM Card; that does not do anything as they have my phone number...
They said never answer & keep blocking each new number.
