I had to do a reset about two weeks ago. It could be a program I have on the machine causing problems.

I have everything backed up. I will run the check disc and see what happens.

You may be right, I cleaned out the portal and that might do the trick. Thanks.

Thanks for all the advice, It might be something simple like overheating. I cleaned out the portal and it seems to be doing better.

I recall once when a guy set the automated "time out because no response to password prompt" interval, to 1 millisecond.
Good times.

Could not bring up the event viewer. Then I find that other apps would not come up either. I did a reset about three weeks ago. Now I think I need to do a complete reinstall.
So that is what I will do.

Now I think I need to do a complete reinstall. Sometimes that's actually a time saver.
Good luck.

Late to the party... on Win 7 machines the following patches have been found problematic to say the least:
KB4093112
KB4093118
KB4088875
KB4088878
Last two were the attempt to patch Intel Spectre/Meltdown

Thanks. I went in and deleted the most recent updates and then last night went on and did a full clean new install. The machine is now working correctly. Thanks everyone for the good advice.
