[F]ans have petitioned for the Leia recasting, with almost 8000 signatures gathered.
The petition states: “As the fans of STAR WARS and Carrie Fisher, we really want Leia to shine in Episode IX and we certainly do not want her to be written out of the film abruptly without a reasonable plot.
Despite fan support, it’s not clear if a majority would be comfortable with such recasting following Fisher’s death.
After all, to the fan base she is and always will be Princess Leia.
However there have been more than one actor who have played the same character in the Star Wars universe.
“Therefore, recasting Leia is a more ideal option for us and we believe that Meryl Streep is an ideal candidate to play Leia.”

A stupid petition isn’t gonna do anything. Carrie Fisher is not replaceable. They’ll kill off the Leia character. That’s the only choice.

Are there really 8000 so stupid as to not realize Carrie has already been thoroughly digitized - as far back as the early days at Pinewood? The only other women on earth who have a deeper digital library are that amorphous young thing that plays Rey , and probably gal gadot.
bad business decision. They will lose at least 1/2 or more of their audience. I have seen every Star Wars movie since the beginning but will gladly skip this one if they choose that old washed up liberal hag Meryl Streep.

The vile Meryl Streep should be shrouded and shunned. This petition is RIDICULOUS.
Meryl is a worthless hypocritical POS. I applaud and cheer every time she’s in a movie that bombs.
That’s what happens when the Jedi abdicate their responsibility.

They should have gone ahead and let Leia die in Last Jedi.

CGI has gotten pretty good and the technology is now there to bring any actor back from the “Dead” to be in a movie. So they could bring Carrie Fisher back all they want.
I just an article on an actress who will play Marilyn Monroe, they shot something like 6000 body shots of this woman and then put in CGI likeness over her and that woman looked very much Monroe, they can do the same for Fisher.
As if this series couldn’t get any worse.
I hadn't watched one since the first trilogy and was conned into go see Rogue One, that was enough, instant Jedi reinforced my decision not to waste any more time or money on it. Sacrilege, I know
