FULL TITLE: Speedometer shows lesbian couple were driving 90 mph when they went off a cliff, killing themselves and their six adopted children, court documents reveal
The speedometer inside a lesbian couple's SUV was 'pinned' at 90 mph after it plunged 100 feet off a California cliff with their six adopted children inside, according to court documents.
Jennifer and Sarah Hart, both 39, were killed when their 2003 GMC Yukon XL crashed off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway in Northern California this week.
Authorities say all eight members of the Hart family, including the six children aged 12 to 19, are presumed dead.
The bodies of three of the children - Markis Hart, 19, Jeremiah Hart, 14, and Abigail Hart, 14 - were located at the bottom of the cliff.
Police believe the couple's three other children - Hannah Hart, 16, Devonte Hart, 15 and Sierra Hart, 12 - were also in the car at the time but their bodies have not yet been found.
Mystery surrounds the horror crash given no one saw their SUV drive off a flat, dirt pullout overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
A search warrant was served at the family's home on Thursday to look for items including a travel itinerary, journals and possible suicide notes.
According to an affidavit for the warrant, cited by Fox 12 Oregon, the speedometer was 'pinned' at 90 mph.
Investigators said there was no evidence the car hit the embankment as it 'traversed towards the tidal zone below', and there were no 'acceleration marks, tire friction marks or braking furrow marks'.
'Based upon the California Highway Patrol investigation, it is their belief "a felony has been committed,"' the court documents stated, according to Fox 12.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy same year model as this 2003 GMC Yukon XL
and it has a speedometer with 120 mph. The Yukon would be the same.
Sorry, but while they may have driven off the cliff, the fact the speedometer was broken at 90, just means the accelerator was depressed when it broke.. a car airborne requires little gas for the wheels to think they were going quickly.
If the car was plunging and the driver was doing the typical reaction of bracing themselves with their feet, gas is probably fully depressed.
I am not remotely saying they didn’t drive off the cliff intentionally, but I think the fact the speedometer broke showing 90 when it hit doesn’t prove jack about what speed it was going or why it went over the cliff.

This is driving me crazy. The mileage between Woodland, WA and where the incident occurred is around 600 miles and would take 11-12 hours to drive. That would necessitate restrooms, gas and food stops.
Someone must have seen the women and children during this journey. Perhaps the 3 missing children felt threatened and took off at one of the rest stops. The women panicked and didn’t report them missing. Big ‘perhaps’, but this case is shocking in every way.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hadn’t thought about the abusive ‘dominant’ partner doing this unabated. But I bet you’re right. With all the friends in denial or not being shown this aspect of the abuser. I wonder if we’ll ever find out what the true relationship dynamics were in this couple—short of a suicide note. Sad the kids paid the ultimate price.
NONSENSE.....anyone who has ever driven a car, and especially those who have driven race cars, know that when the drive wheels encounter no resistance (become airborne) the speedometer goes nuts because the drivers foot is now feeding a free spinning drive train with no resistance.....
This is why you don’t let gays, lesbians, and other insane people adopt children.

My first thought is that the driver would have had to mash down pretty long and hard on that "mistaken" brake pedal to get up to 90 mph and fly off the cliff. Doesn't sound reasonable to me.
But if you were to look at it like the vehicle was driven off the cliff at a slower speed than 90 mph, then the 90 mph speed could be the result of mashing on the accelerator after the back tires left the ground. But to me, instinctively a person would mash the brake pedal even if they were airborne. It's a reflex when you want to stop the car. So this scenario doesn't sound reasonable to me either.
This looks like a suicide and 7 murders if the driver did this intentionally and on her own. Maybe there was an argument and she got angry and lost it. Snapped and punched it after it was too late too stop.
Or maybe it was a lesbian suicide pact and 6 murders. The two wanted to end it all and take the kids with them.
At 90 mph speed, this was not an accident, so by default it was a felony reckless drive of some kind. The same conclusion the CHP came to.
Making accusations without facts, I agree. Yet my instinct in this case thinks it was murder-suicide by the two women.
I have seen it secondhand. A friend’s sister had been beaten up by her lesbian significant other. She went into hiding. It had been going on for some time.
I’ve read up on things like this. The abuse is addictive for the abuser and they always end up killing the object of their ‘love’.
OK, from that picture, it appears that the highway department may be at fault. If you are following the guardrail, it is going to aim you toward the edge of the cliff before it abruptly ends.
