I'm feeling like hearing some interesting music that I've never heard before, so I thought I'd start a thread on FReeper's favorite underrated bands. Post several good examples of their music and why you feel they're underrated. Should be fun.
TOPICS: Music/Entertainment

They still could be “underrated” by most people and critics. They are far from my favorite band, not close, but many people do like to condescend to them.
But I understand that the thread was probably intended more for discussing “obscure” underrated bands.

Ive always liked the Little River Band. Reminiscing never gets old, IMHO. A great band. "It's A Long Way There" has some killer guitar.
But they were only good with Shorrock/Goble/Birtles.

I always liked this one:
Run Home Girl, by Manchester (England) band Sad Café. Pretty much a one-hit wonder though.
Not a band, but I've always loved the late Kenny Rankin. Here's a sample: In The Name Of Love.

I will enjoy this thread, but I really wanna do one on worst overrated bands next! That's an easy one for me - The Black Crowes. I like actually liked them when I heard them on their records/CDs. But I saw them play live twice, and both times they sounded like a junior high school garage band who had never played together before that night. They must have gotten a lot of "help" in the studio while making their records.

The Verve. Most Americans only know their overplayed pop anthem Bitter Sweet Symphony but the rest of their 97 album Urban Hymns contains some pretty solid Les Paul and Marshall-driven British rock.

Little River Band is a good choice. "Take It Easy On Me" is a lost gem from the early 1980s. Reminds me of the optimism of the early Reagan years.
Fast forward a few decades and the band "War On Drugs" is definitely worthy of more attention then they have been getting. Their music grows on you over time.

I’ve seen them and met them. Nice folks. We’re all old now................

Not exactly obscure, but I paid little attention to Dire Straits when they were active.... but lately I've really been loving my own rediscovery of their music. They are much better than I, at least, realized at the time:
