I'm feeling like hearing some interesting music that I've never heard before, so I thought I'd start a thread on FReeper's favorite underrated bands. Post several good examples of their music and why you feel they're underrated. Should be fun.

The first name I thought of.

Almost all of my favorite bands have Twitter followers numbering in the dozens or hundreds—about five orders of magnitude less than the bands that currently get air time. Almost none of them are associated with any kind of recording company; so I buy their CDs or downloads directly from the bands. I guess that would make all of them underrated.

Spinal Tap. They had amps that went up to 11. Far out, man.

Government Mule. Their covers are better than most of the originals:

The correct answer is:

The Zombies

Three big hits they’re known for but pretty much everything they did was tuneful and well performed. Love Colin Blunstone’s vocals.

Honorable mention: Crowded House

Bobby Steele was kicked out of the Misfits in 1980 and went on to form his own horror punk band. While never achieving Misfits-like sales, The Undead and Bobby continue to write new songs and rock like no other punk band, young or old.

Here is The Undead at Tompkins Square Park in NYC...Bobby basically invented the downstroke.
