I am listening to Rush via Internet WSB out of Atlanta.
The Ad for Chappaquiddick movie came on and at the end of it I heard the announcer voiceover disclaimer say "Contains historical smoking'...................
That’s where we are today, as a society, having to warn people there is gambling in Rick’s Place...................
Just another example of the 2 sets of laws we have in this country. The diver who found Mary Jos body said her head was sticking up in an air pocket and they determined she suffocated over the course of 3 to 4 hours which you can imagine is an eternity in that situation.
I also think that needless to say she went under the water searching for a way to exit but couldn’t find one. Why? Were all the doors closed and the windows shut tight? If so then how did Teddy get out?
I think what you called it is 100% accurate, it was a murder and I think he deliberately drove to that bridge and purposely drove it over the side and jumped out or got out making pretend the engine died and pushed it over while locking her in. There was a house not far from where it happened that had it’s lights on. He easily could have knocked on the door and called for help saving her life but he didn’t. Why? Because he wanted her to die.
Think about it, back then drunk driving was treated nowhere nearly as harshly as it is today. I doubt he even would have been arrested if the cops thought he was drunk, so the excuse of him trying to “sober up” is absolute BS. He wanted her to die and he probably stuck around a while to make sure she didn’t surface.
She was not a drinker, barely knew Teddy and left with him in his car leaving her keys and purse behind at that party. Why? Was she threatened? Forced against her will? Was she lied to about something? This excuse that he was driving her to catch the ferry is utter BS. This punk lured her away somehow and killed her. Who knows why.
Save for trains.
One Boston talk show host said/related "... if you see Ted Kennedy getting on the same train as you are, get off. He's due to take trains off his bucket list."
Is that for real?? A genuine LIFE magazine cover? So they tried to make him look like a victim to some degree, rather than the perpetrator he was.
Keep in mind Mary Jo didn’t drown, she suffocated. The diver that retrieved her body found it where there was a small pocket of air she was able to breath for several hours, waiting for help that never came, while Mr. Kennedy was making dozens of calls from a nearby pay phone, yet notifying no-one in the first responder category or law enforcement.
What a total cunt. My dad always hated him, and as I get older I see why.
There is a theory that Mr. Kennedy wasn’t driving or even in the car. He panic’d when that cop car showed up while they were parked and he took off on foot, the publicity was something he did not need. Eventually Mary Jo tried to drive the big unfamiliar car at night on unfamiliar back roads and missed the turn off.
Wha? No, he was widely criticized and everybody thought that was the dumbest goddamned thing they ever saw.
This is to warn parents that (OMG!) people will be smoking in this movie so as to appear historically accurate. A big deal was made about this topic during the AMC series “Mad Men” set in the 1960s. I thought “Mad Men” went overboard on people smoking and do not think the 1960s was a giant puffathon. Just like Hollywood to exaggerate.
Someday, they’ll have a warning for “historical gun ownership”.
1960s WAS a giant puffathon.........My parents and uncles and aunts had cigs constantly going.........................
I watched a British documentary on YouTube that demonstrated that the island road had an intersection - turn left and you go to the ferry. Turn right, and you cross the unlit bridge where MJK and the car were found.
An off duty officer claims he saw the car after midnight at a dead spot and it appeared Ted was trying to have sex with MJK but the cop car spooked them. They coasted straight through the intersection and Ted probably got out fearing he would be caught.
Drunk and disoriented, MJK turned and drove down to the bridge while Ted, mussed but *completely dry*, walked past several houses back to where the party was and had aides drive him home.
When they got to the ferry, it had already closed for the night so Ted dove into the water and swam across the shore to return to his rental cottage on foot.
Teddy was chatting amiably the next morning over breakfast until an aide reached him and told him that his car was found with dead woman inside it. The aide said he turned white as a sheet.
A cover story had to be concocted. They decided it looked more innocent if Ted was driving and bravely tried to get MJK out before saving himself than to admit that he was committing adultery and wasn’t in the car.
They had some convincing interviews and diagrams.
He was flying in a small private plane headed to the state Democratic convention in western Massachusetts. The plane crashed into an orchard. This was in 1964.
Who beat her into accepting a ride, alone, with a kennedy?
It also: “Contains historical drowning.”
And ‘Historical Cover Upping’.....................
I heard that today. Pathetic and stupid.
I thought I was mistaken.
But I was wrong..............
“Who beat her into accepting a ride, alone, with a kennedy?”
What are you even talking about? Did I imply in any way that she was forced to ride with Teddy? Exactly the opposite. I don’t think she’s any kind of an innocent, and I posted earlier that she was found without panties. Sounds suspicious.
Also, in the early ‘70s I worked in a small town near Wilkes Barre where she was from. Some of the ladies in my office had gone to school with her and they were amused by the way the media portrayed her, i.e., sweet and innocent. They said she wasn’t.
My wife and I were driving home from drs appointment yesterday and heard it and I said is this a Rush parody or are they serious and if they are serious how screwed up have we become as a country?
Wikipedia lists her the same as "The Media".
A neighbor says he knows the Chappaquiddick ferry operator well; however, my neighbor is unlikely to dump on a Kennedy. Too bad.
As things would happen, I was on MV for 2 weeks after the murder; went & drove over the narrow little Dyke bridge on Chappaquiddick; even locals [who mostly revere] the K Klan knew something was fishy, when Teddie’s statement was out, another chink in the K armor appeared.
Even sober, in daylight, driving that bridge, you have to be careful.
Anyone who saw *Jaws*. saw the ferry channel crossing to Chappaquiddick.
Easily won the senate seat; lost his driver’s permit for a short while.
Was Mary Jo Kopechne was pregnant?
She wasn’t wearing any undies while with a guy she didn’t know very well...
Okaaaaay.....
