Soviet emblems being displayed in a place of honor, and any form of glorification of the Soviet Empire, have NO place on American soil in this context.
Worse, the Russian Defense Ministry is pretending as if this is some attempt to celebrate "co-operation" -- when in reality, under Putin, the World War II narrative taught in Russian schools, and mainstream among the Russian public now is pro-Stalin in its orientation and accusatory of America's taking "too much credit" for its contributions.
This is their attempt to rectify what they see as "overshadowing" of the Soviet legacy, which they want the world to celebrate rather than condemn.
The U.S. is better off erecting monuments to exemplary Soviet defectors and refugees...
The Red Army bled white the Nazis. By the time of Overlord the Germany army was a shell of its former self. A memorial can recognize Soviet pilots without glorifying the Communist ideology. Not their fault their leadership was so awful.
I’d reject it also.
Roosevelt should have stood aside and let Hitler and Stalin bash each-others brains out for a couple more years.
We went to war to free Europe from Nazi tyranny and wound up turning over half of it to Soviet tyranny.
I’d take the monument over Lenin’s statue they have in Seattle any day
How about a monument honoring Soviet submarines.
They could make it glow in the dark just like the actual Soviet submariners who served on their nuke subs.
I hate to see little towns doing Hillary’s work of hating the Russians.
Soviet Communism, Nazi Socialism, Japanese Imperialism, and Italian Fascism should have all been eradicated at the same time. I would have no ill feelings generally for the people but the governments were evil and direct threats to America. Being allies with the Communists was disgusting but I am looking through the lens of history 73 years or so later.
Probably the same Soviet pilots we shot down over MIG alley in Korea.
Hell no, we don’t need any tribute to Soviet military on our soil. Remember, the Iron Curtain, Poland, Hungary,Berlin wall, Stalin etc. and all their scum.
“” “” “I realize it’s about honoring fallen heroes from World War II, and we have Americans who fought in World War II who are buried in Russia. But times were different then,” council member Anita Hummer said.”” “”
Yep, times were different then. They were Commies but not anymore so no monument. If only it was a Lenin statue then OK.
