I like the way they try to backtrack on their statements.
“They’re not academics” said the teacher. The soldier is willing to give his life. This teacher is willing to give a terrorist a history lesson.
Plus, he’s wrong. I’d be willing to bet that any soldier who is smart enough not to be recorded saying things that will get him fired is smarter than this idiot.
Very good news and the icing on the cake is it was a unanimous decision by the school board.

And I guess the main question is - is he “from here”....
1) They acted only after being shamed into it.
2) Some of them probably agree but are afraid to say so.
3) Salcido undoubtedly made similar remarks many times before to various groups of students, many of whom probably believed him.
4) Many other people in positions of authority or responsibility espouse the same views.

Not to mention every officer is a college graduate and many enlisted have degrees. Plus, the military operates research organizations that dwarf any University.
Almost everybody in Pico Rivera is Mexican American, and a more than a few of them are veterans. Salcido made a lot of enemies in that community.
Maybe some sympathetic Dem congressman will give this guy a job to preserve his retirement and benefits.
