NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY could ever call me a Never Trumper. In fact, I was perhaps one of the very first Trump supporters on this forum.
However, by using his Executive Order to ban bump-stocks as machine guns -- despite the fact that they STILL PULL ONE TRIGGER FOR ONE ROUND BEING FIRED -- he has just done something in an extra-judicial manner.
Despite the clear language of the law that defines automatic weapons -- that one trigger pull discharges multiple rounds continuously -- his EO causes the language to be ignored.
Now, I get that Trump bashed the NRA, then met with them the next day. I get that. Thats chicken feed for the liberals and RINOs.
BUT
Trump banned bump stocks pretty much by Executive Order.
DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THAT MEANS?
It means the first Democrat who gets elected will ban ALL SEMIAUTOS by Executive Order. All they have to do, with this precedent, is show someone firing a semi-auto in a bump-fire method using a pants belt-loop. Voila: It's a full-auto. Therefore, it can be EO'd away.
The right thing to have done was to encourage / demand the House give him a bump stock ban bill. Then get it through the Senate. Then sign it.
But by doing what he just did, he made it possible for Dems to EO firearms away.
BAN FOONS!
Banning sales to under-21 will bring legal challenge over what constitutes a legal “adult”. Unintended consequences will be interesting.
Agreed. The Slide Fire was specifically designed to enable a semi-auto to fire like an automatic. Yes, it was developed on a long know trick/technique called "bump fire", but it's much more effective, and with very little practice, allows you to shoulder and fire just like a select-fire auto, unlike old-school bumpfire where you stick your thumb in your belt loop and fire off a mag while yelling YEEHAW! Personally, I think automatic rifles should be legal without having to jump through ridiculous hoops, pay the govt a bribe/fee, and then pay 10 times what it should cost for a 50 year old gun.
We all get it, it's not a "real automatic". Do I like it? Hell no! But I'm not going to pretend the Slide Fire is anything but a product designed to "perform like" an automatic, so Trump's EO is certainly in the "spirit" of the law, if not the letter. There is no way the courts strike down this EO. Those who want to replace Trump with Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris or Bernie Sanders over this are welcome to cut off their nose to spite their face.
Sporks arent not a fork
EO’s are not law. Well sort of. But this is a state issue. 2A is crystal clear. But states, cities, counties, and local jurisdictions can, have, and do place restrictions on weapons of all types.
Interestingly there was an automatic revolver (semi-auto) made see

Yep!
Yep!
Sure...
And 9 out of 10 grunts would tell you they’d prefer the bolt action or semi-auto to a bump stock or automatic M4 (but definitely not a SAW).
I’m playing devil’s advocate, not really agreeing with him on this. But I’ve seen idiots in the range use these bumpski’s and they couldn’t hit squat with it after the 2nd shot flies by.
Excellent point. The Striker 12 & Streetsweeper are not autoloaders but merely revolving shotguns with a windup spring assist.
In the current frenzy any Remington 1100 could be banned just like they did in Australia (banned Remington 870s, too).
I’m not sure, but I supported Trump since BEFORE he ever announced his candidacy. There were rumors he might.
Care to compare dates. :D
I would like to go on record as being fully supportive of Trump in this case. Now, if he pulls any more gun control tricks he’s way, way wrong, but I think he’s ok with this one.
Badboo,
My 1856(?) revolver copy copy turns the cylinder when you let off the trigger.Couldn’t that be classified as semi-auto?
BTW; It’s a blast to shoot in the dark 10 feet of flame and smole is scary!
Stack that up against the most consequential, and wonderful set of accomplishments for his first year of any President from the right (or left), and we should all be thrilled.
I think you're being over zealous in your criticism.
Ok, how many of the mass shooters people are screaming about had idiotic bump stocks?
This is just slippery slope tactic here to redefine semi automatics as automatics.
They never care about whether they are being technically accurate in their criicism or bans.
Laz, we on FR like to joke about your prowess with the fairer sex. But this past month it’s gungrabbing fever not seen since 1968 (I was there) and it is time for nothing but serious discussion.
Can you concentrate your fire on the sudden explosion in GVRO legislation? So far in liberals states like CA, OR, WA, IL & MA, anyone you’ve ever argued with or had a relationship with can now denounce you to the po-po as a dangerous lunatic with guns. Po-po goes to judge, gets GVRO, SWAT team kicks in your door & your guns are gone forever.
Have I oversimplified?
Ok good. I strongly value your friendship; I would have hated to see that damaged.
Now youve done it. Feinstein can now ban that because it sounds scary.
All scary guns are assault guns.
Same. I hope you’re using your potholders!
Isn't that something, too? Not even Sandy Springs caused this much fervor, and the only thing Adam Lanza DIDN'T do is stomp on some cute kittens on the way out of shooting up a preschool.
It informs me darker forces are in action, especially when you couple it with the scores of purposed ignoring of this threat by local, state, and federal law enforcement.
They are holding the hell outta some pot!
I kid, I kid.
