I like to reinstall Windows from scratch periodically as a means of making sure I have no embedded malware that I am unaware of.
I decided it would be handy to make an image of a fresh install and restore that rather than do it from scratch next time.
Computers with EUFI boot managers make it more difficult because you can't boot into third party software.
I did some research and found AOEMI One Key Recovery, tried it and it works great.
When your computer is booting up you can press the F11 key and choose to restore the image. Do nothing and it boots into Windows.
This is really handy when you suffer a malware attack. Rather than deal with it you can just revert to your recovery install.
I also created a separate partition on my hard drive where I store all my documents and files. That way the recovery doesn't disturb them and they are right where you left them after the recovery.
Just thought somebody else might find this useful.
Many thanks! Great tip!
IS it possible for malware to get onto the separate partition ? If not, how do you secure that from happening?
You’re restoring from a binary image, not a bunch of files.
Nothing is impossible, but it would be pretty close to impossible.
You can ask the same question about the factory recovery partition that came with your computer.
Thanks.
i know a lot of folks use AOEMI- but i believe it’s chinese?
So is your motherboard, hard drive, RAM, etc.
i have a hard time trusting chinese software-
Yet you trust Chinese hardware and the embedded firmware.
which have all likely been vetted-
For Later
“Vetted?”
Is that a technical term?
Is there a standardized protocol involved?
Who did this “vetting?”
So much for your “vetting.”

Fact is, you are at the mercy of Chinese software whether you choose to admit it or stick your head in the sand and say you aren’t.
whatever- Vetted means evaluated properly- you know what I meant- had anything been discovered that was bad, they would have made it public concerning the hardwaRE and firmware- software too to an extent- however- newer software often gets through with crap in it before people have a chance to check it out properly for safety- especially chinese and russian software etc-
Not something that I would do or have done willingly.
Does the backup capture the drivers for everything so re-installation would be easier. Not that it is ever that easy. Lol.
Also, do you need your OS key and software license keys? Might not be a bad idea to save the info somewhere.
looksl iek the vettign worked and discovered problems huh?
Looks also like you’re just itching for a fight- got5 a bug up yer butt or something?
That is OK, but . . . afterward, you will have missed all the updates to Windows (a horror for Win10), as well as for other utilities, and upgrades that have replaced earlier versions of your most-used main programs.
Sounds like a lot more work than just keeping malware and viruses off your machine by regular housekeeping with available (even free) antivir and anitmal utilities, as well as having a solid firewall.
i think it’s more a last resort for those that might get malware and want to start over with clean install- it would save a ton of time- but there would still need to be things done like updates- driver updates etc-
I assume you should apply all the updates thru current before the image is created. I wonder how long that would take ?
