Last week, at least two dozen producers who ship milk to Dean Foods in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina and Ohio were told they have until May 31, 2018 to find a new home for their milk.
“Unfortunately, Dean Foods has made the difficult decision to end milk procurement contracts with a number of farmers in about 90 days,” says Reace Smith director of corporate communications at Dean Foods. “We regret this decision had to be made.”
If this sounds familiar that’s because, almost one year ago, producers in Wisconsin were told by their processor, Grassland Dairy, that they had 30 days to find a new home for their milk.
Is Walmart To Blame?
For decades Dean has had a private label contract with Walmart for their Great Value branded milk. In many parts of the country, they still do. But in the region where these contracts have been lost, Walmart built their own bottling plant. The plant, which is in Ft. Wayne, Ind., is expected to be fully operational and running at capacity by the end of May.
In my area, the difference between Dollar General & local dairy milk & Wal Mart is about 30 cents.
I had no idea they were building in Fort Wayne.
It’s $6 a half gallon up here (in CT).
Agree, unpasteurized and natural ew milk is the only version I like. Pasteur admitted on his deathbed that it was not in the milk but the way it was handled that was the point of infection.
Similar story with citrus juice, it is only processed - pasteurized to allow for storage in a quasi dehydrated state and then reconstituted later. Attended a meeting of citrus growers about the impact of the Psyllid virus killing off citrus trees and what to do. Found out that Florida citrus has been severely impacted to the point that because of the GMO nature of the new trees it can no longer be sold as a fresh fruit. Also in the last stages of the psyllid infection the juice becomes bitter and they have had to add components to overcome the unpalatability of the product to sell it.
All part of the Master Plan to try and control us...

Dean Foods is ending their contracts with dairy farmers in a certain area because Walmart is building their own bottling plant.
The contracts end at the same time the Walmart plant becomes fully operational.
Seems likely that the dairy farmers who lost their Dean Foods contracts would be able to ship their product to the new Walmart plant without too much trouble.
So why all the drama?
Walmart set up a milk processing plant in Indiana and ships it to the price support states for more money, bypassing the state’s intent to help local farmers.
Sounds like a tariff on imported milk that did not work.
Interesting, was not aware of the similar situation with citrus juice. I started on raw milk a few years ago, I can’t even drink the commercial stuff anymore. My calcium levels went from super low before, even with supplements and high fake “dairy”, to upper normal range now with no supplements and raw milk. The store I buy at is basically an Amish owned store to sell products from local Amish farmers, so there is other good stuff there as well, natural cheeses, canned goods, cream, butter, etc. Feel very blessed to have such a store right near home, when some states do not allow the sale of many of these products at all.
If they looked into converting their herds to A2A2 status, they would get a premium price for their milk. And if they bought some stock it would fund their conversion. The future of milk is in A2.
I drank my last glass of milk at age 9 in 1950. I never liked milk and was allowed to drink coffee went I reached 10 and never went back to milk.
I like ice cream, and sometimes use cream in my coffee, but milk and cereal were never for my taste buds.

I have nothing against Walmart or Amazon, but since I hate monopolies as well as political dynasties, if they become milk producers, I might reconsider.
I am truly puzzled about that because I have known for decades, that as groups, Europeans are seldom lactose intolerant, while Asians are almost all Lactose intolerant.
Here in California, Lactose-free dairy products are exploding in popularity.
So why all the drama?

This explains why we had to switch the children to goats milk due to an allergy to milk. The allergy was to A1 milk(holstein), goats milk is A2 milk.

We raised goats for 25 years. Found out about the A1A2 thing about 10+ years ago - I read The Devil in the Milk. It’s not just goats milk but sheeps milk, camel milk, human breast milk is all A2. We have not had goats for 4+ years now. Was SO Happy to see A2 milk in our store in Michigan almost a year ago now. I have followed the company for several years. I’m glad you found this useful. I was a little timid about posting and did not want to hijack your threads. This is just too important to health. Last year when I saw the milk in the store I found the manager and bent his ear for about 10 minutes about why I was so happy to find A2 milk in the store. I told him eventually many of the fake milk brands would just disappear. No need of them. A2 milk company had a facebook site too. Full of people who have tried it with none of the effects they usually have.
99 cents/gallon in northern Michigan.
