Bucking expectations that this year's Academy Awards would be less stridently political, second-time host Jimmy Kimmel focused almost exclusively on politics, nearly dropping any pretense of humor. His monologue concluded with a call for Americans to attend a pro-gun control rally later this month and featured several barbs directed at the Trump Administration.
Just seconds into the 90th annual Oscars, Kimmel introduced Lupito Nyong'o, an actress of Kenyan and Mexican descent.
"Let the tweet storm from the president's toilet begin," Kimmel then commented.
Concluding, Kimmel made a call for Americans to attend a March 24th rally in support of new gun control legislation. Speaking to actors who might win awards, Kimmel said: "You have an opportunity and a platform to remind millions of people about important things like equal rights and equal treatment, if you want to encourage others to join the amazing students at Parkland at their March on the 24th, do that."
Kimmel hit Trump again later in the monologue, joking that he called Jordan Peele's horror film "Get Out," "the best three quarters of a movie this year."
Kimmel also name dropped Vice President Mike Pence.
"Only two of the best picture movies made more than $100 million," Kimmel said. "That's not the point. We don't make films for money. We make them to upset Mike Pence. Right?"
Kimmel also spent much of the monologue talking about the wave of sexual harassment and abuse that rocked Hollywood over the last year.
"Over the course of this evening, I hope you will listen to many brave and outspoken supporters of movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp and never again, because what they're doing is important," Kimmel said. "Things are changing for the better, they're making sure of that. It is positive change."
My thoughts exactly! I enjoyed Billy Crystal's work as Oscars host. Remember when Jack Palance did the one-armed pushups? Billy Crystal's response was priceless. The Oscars were fun to watch in those days.
That is when we had entertainment and not political puppets. They somehow believe that their opinions are important and make sure we know that. ugh
Can’t write what I want to say.
>>>Kimmel hit Trump again later in the monologue, joking that he called Jordan Peele’s horror film “Get Out,” “the best three quarters of a movie this year.”<<<
Okay, maybe I’m a bit dense, but is Kimmel referencing the Constitution that counted Slaves as 3/5’s of a Person so the Southern Slave States would sign on?
Because, you know, 3/4’s and 3/5’s is the same thing...
I’m thinking Seinfeld might be good host.
XLNT don’t forget the limo drivers.
Did they call Weinstein a god again?
I wonder if Pervey Weinstein was even mentioned by this group of narcissistic hypocrites.
It would be so hard to think up any Weinstein jokes. They just don’t have the joke making ability.

An excellent point! All the haters sell POTUS Trump far short in so many ways, and they certainly fail to see that he got into this out of love of country. He did not need to do anything with politics for his own sake.... he could enjoy being rich and famous in so many easier ways.
He used to be fairly funny, when he was teamed up with Adam Caroloa, though I liked Adam better.
I don't know what time the show began, but I used that time for much better purposes: Amazon Prime is featuring "Yessongs," the Yes concert video filmed on their "Close the the Edge" tour, and it's been very well remastered, given the early 1970s film recording.

Hey Kimmi, as the 2nd Amendment goes, so goes the First.
And private jets.
are we still discussing arms. I was adding armed limo drivers to the list of PD
Jimmy Kimmel: preaching to the perverted.
Remember when Adrian Brody accepted his Oscar and gave Halle Berry a long wet kiss? Ha, ha, they’re not even allowed to do that anymore! Bingo night at the assisted living facility is probably more exciting than watching these smug scolds trying to suddenly act chivalrous.
Fit the latest, “Spectre,” into the mix. I think they did it completely right, down to the DB-5. And Ralph Fiennes has become a great “M.” FReegards.
I have to take back what I said before. Against my best efforts, Kimmel did achieve my laughter once.
I dont know who wrote his intro to Sandra Bullocks presenting, but it did make me laugh.
Speed, Gravity, Crash, are not just the next presenters films but reasons not to fly with Harrison Ford.
The awards? I spent the evening watching an 1955 western with Robert Mitchim in it, and another with my favorite Asian actor Richard Loo playing 1945 Richard Loo as usual. There is no entertainment in Hollywood anymore, because it is all pretty much crap with a few good ones, that manage to squeak through, but never get mentioned in the awards. Agenda driven movies is all we get lately.
