need advice. I have an adolescent with sever behavioral issues. Suicidal thoughts, violent behavior, bursts of emotion, anger and very drastic mood swings. Like you see in the movies about crazy people, but from a 12 year old.
we have tried all sorts of therapy but nothing seems to move the needle. The last evaluation mentioned posbile hospitalization and medications. Does anyone have experience with this?
May God bless this child and heal him quickly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I am on the autism spectrum. The ONLY thing that saved me was that there was no such thing as the internet or a home computer when I was a child. I had to learn to cope.
I’m just saying.
Somewhere your child has found a crease in your defensive line and has learned to exploit it. You have to learn to win. You don’t always have to be right because you won’t always be right and when you are wrong, you need to apologize. But you have to win. Every...single...time.
“We dont want meds but Im not sure where else to turn.”
Use what works. My best friend is a 60 year-old CPA and he needs Ritalin but he won’t take it. He’s almost homeless.
I will be praying. We have lot’s of teens in the family and I used to mentor teens. What may help is advise from an outsider.Give them a number of someone you trust that they can call-no questions asked.Stay positive with them. Some teens express themselves in anger. As long as they are not hurting you are throwing things let them go.The suicide part should be handed by a professional with private visits. They do grow out of this if it’s not mental.I am going to say a rosary for your family tomorrow.((((Hugs))))
You don’t mention if it’s a boy or a girl in the opening post. If it’s a girl, it sounds hormonal. Either way, all adolescents cope with hormone surges. I would take the child to a good pediatric endocrinologist and make sure the thyroid is acting properly. Many of those symptoms are found in thyroid disorders, and are often mistaken for strictly emotional issues.
Lastly, get some qualified Christian private counseling for yourselves as you are going to need it ASAP!
Understand this will not be a short term project and I personally have known couples who divorce over tough stuff like this!
Please keep me informed & if you need help getting the book I suggest, Ill gladly help you - PLUS Im praying for you for the Lord to move mountains on your behalf.
Had never heard of this, but it explains behaviors I've seen in my own family. Good article:
I was going to say the same thing! LYME or any one of the tick borne illnesses. My daughter went through this, and it turned out to be LYME. Hard to find a lyme literate doctor, though. I know a good one in Missouri and in Illinois, if you are close to these states.

A complete break from all modern stimuli.
Amen
Praying
Prayers up for your child and you...
Is it possible your child is being sexually abused or bullied?
Heavenly Father, we ask you to protect newnhdads 12 year old child. Please protect and heal this child emotionally and spiritually. Give this young child the strength he/she needs for endurance and healing. (Luke 11:1-4) With your great love, drive out all his/her fears and comfort this child. 1 John 4:18 Amen
Please pray for my child too
watch out for children’s hospitals who view everything through the prism of child abuse
the word that jumps out at me is schizophrenia
Reads like it’s time to see a psychiatrist or at the very least a MD you know & trust.
Peace be with you & your son as I suffered from depression for 25 years. It’s horrible for everyone.
Where are you?
You need to get them to a behavioral health professional. If you go to a local ER and use the word suicidal, they should get them into a 72 protective hold.
My daughter needed that kind of help at 16. It was easily the worst night of my life. But if there was something horribly wrong, they would have found it. When she got out she realized she wasn’t as bad off as a lot of other people.
A lot of adolescent kids eat chemicals, get too wired into the world, and get too wrapped up in drama.
I would recommend going to a psychiatrist over a psychologist. One works on the physical brain—the other is a phd at best.
What you describe is not something I would leave to a counselor or religious leader. Praying for them is one thing. Getting the A team in there is quite another.
This is nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone I know had had a child crises or two. Work this out...love your child.
I just saw you are in NH. I am sure Dartmouth Hitchcock has the best people in the State.
Prayers for newnhdad, daughter and family.
Blessings for your prayers and all the warriors on FR.
