His next door neighbor, Viviana Tory, says Cunningham said something odd to her husband the day he went missing, reports CBS News' Omar Villafranca.
"He told my husband to tell his wife – me – to erase his cellphone number from my cellphone," Tory said.
Investigators returned to the woods around Cunningham's house Monday searching for more clues. His family found his wallet, his car, even his beloved dog all left behind in his Atlanta home. Cunningham's father, Terrell, drove from Maryland to Georgia after not hearing from his son for two days.

Time travel. I’ve seen it before.
Did he walk out with a strain of something bad to sell to someone even worse? The whole deal makes zero sense with what’s been put out there so far.
If Cunningham has a badge for work, wonder if that’s missing, too...
Time travelers from the future took him because a virulent strain of an old disease was killing off the population, and they had no ‘experts’ on the virus.
Well, that settles it, he went into hiding, thoroughly freaked out. Knew his parents would be too, so his dog would be OK when they came to check on him.

Probably was Fostored. Apparently, he was a whistleblower getting out the word there’s a problem with the flu vaccine(s). Snatched from his home and “dealt with”, maybe.

My GUESS:
He contracted something fatal and went off to commit suicide rather than deal with the effects.
Sounds like he might have been having an affair with Viv, the neighbor. Just a thought.
You want to really twist that one like a pretzel, watch the film “Predestination”. I saw it free on amazon prime. It’s got plot twists you never see coming.
