When it ended with the United States’ first gold in the sport at about 4:15 a.m. Eastern (6:15 p.m. in Korea), more than 77,000 people were streaming the event through NBC’s Olympics website.

How many were watching on television on NBCSN? It ended so late that data will not be available until Sunday for the 3 to 4:15 a.m. ET portion of the telecast. But an average of 1.58 million viewers were watching from 1:30 to 3 a.m., a remarkable figure given the hour, the sport and the channel.

Did the on-line streaming have NBC’s obnoxious “human not very interesting” pajama-gram stories every 2 minutes, or was it just the sports? And the actual live action?

Finally something good to report about the Olympics.

By the way, the coach of this curling team CLOBBERED Kirstie Alley on Twitter. So give the curling coach a gold medal in Twitter PWNING.

Why? Was it because she supported Trump or something else?

Yeahhhh... if you win gold in curling, ok cool i guess. But you don’t celebrate and high 5, and drape yourself in the flag like you just beat the Russian hockey team in Lake Placid.

Basically Kirstie tweeted out that curling was "boring" and she got a rather unexpected response that made her shut her trap for a while.

Article here.

Was she wrong?

And the clips from around the northern plains of the USA were great. Fans in MN, WI, the Dakotas, IO etc. watching in pubs through the night and the exaltation when the US scored 5 on one play in End 8 was terrific. It had what so much of this Olympics was missing: authenticity. These guys did their best to come back from 7th place to win the gold simply because they love this unsung sport, and it made those who watched them love it, too.

Then he had every right to respond. I must admit that I don’t totally disagree with her though I wish I had watched this one.

It would be boring for those who don't take the time to understand the game.

When I was younger, I used to think that it was boring (as well as bocci - a somewhat similar game). But once you play the game, you learn that it's not as simple as it looks and it takes quite a bit of skill to master. It's a very intricate game.

Also, when I was younger, I thought golf was boring too. Then I started playing and I realized that it took quite a bit of skill and started appreciating the professional players and the years they put into the game to get to that particular level.

I hope it leads to more interest in the sport.

God knows it makes more sense than snowboarding.

Congratulations to the team, but winning the gold medal in curling in Soith Korea in 2018 just doesn’t have the same sense of exhilaration and pride as a gold medal in hockey at Lake Placid in 1980.

Hell of a lot better than watching golf.

On a similar note, do you think the women's hockey team winning the gold medal will garner equal coverage as the men's did in 1980?

Will SI make it a cover story?

“Was she wrong?”

Yes. That’s all I watched this Olympics. Hearing those women scream became a drinking game.

There’s a local beer hall with bocci (or is it a bocci club selling beer? I forget).

I found that beer and bocci go REALLY well with each other.

I presume that the rock is actually curling to some extent as it travels down the ice. Am I correct and would you agree that they should have a camera directly overhead to show this and make it a little bit more intriguing? I have peeked in on a few matches and find it interesting. Must be a lot of mental training as well as physical. Crazy composure to avoid the rocks while sweeping.

I wish they would but they probably won't.

I was around for the 1980 Olympics and personally saw Mike Eruzione's homecoming parade in Winthrop, MA as a scrawny 17-year-old. It was a big deal.

How ironic that liberal media is always hyping up "women's issues" but are nearly totally ignoring women winning a gold medal in hockey. The men of the curling team will probably get a lot more post-Olympic attention. And they should. But the women of hockey should get some attention as well.

I didn't see any of the hockey on the Olympics but I did check out the shootout on YouTube. Those women on ice skates were having the time of their lives! Way better than watching figure skating.
