A hunter in North Carolina who was using an electronic animal caller was fatally shot by a man with an AR-15 who said he mistook the sounds for coyotes roaming near his home, police and relatives said.

Michael Seth Marsh, 26, was killed late Monday in a wooded area in Taylorsville, about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte, as he was hunting coyotes with a 12-gauge shotgun, a rifle and an electronic coyote call, the Taylorsville Times reports.

Marsh was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he could not be saved. Marsh is survived by his wife, Katy, and two children, Braelynn and Isaac.

Manslaughter is appropriate. You don’t shoot into foilage without identifying what you are shooting at.

Obviously, the dreaded AR-15 jumped up and lit the guy up. Any other firearm would have left him alone..........

I will NEVER understand these idiots who shoot at something they CANNOT POSSIBLY identify with their eyes.

Total dumbass to shoot at sound and not fully identify the target. I have a minimum of 4 coyote packs within a half-mile of my house that I can identify by where they are howling from. I have no interest in taking them out because there are too many houses on the acreages around here. The coyotes are just part of the package, IMO.

Sounds like a pretty conviincing call. Did anyone get the name of the manufacturer?

If you don’t have a clear shot at a killzone of identifiable target you have no business whatsoever pulling the trigger.

I have the same situation at my house. Besides, the coyotes along with the owls, keep the pack rats under control.

If the shooter used a bolt action rifle or a Ruger Mini 14, or a Browning BAR or a Remington would that have been emphasized in the story?

“...Sound hunter. Idiot....”
Yep. There are many of em out there.
I was in a tree stand a long time back, and I hear this clown a mile away coming thru the woods. Then, I look down and see him. He looked like Elmer Fudd hunting for Bugs Bunny....sneaking tree to tree. Then, I heard a twig snap, and this guy immediately wheels around and just unloads in the direction of the twig sound!!!! He walks over to where he fired at, looks around, sees nothing and then starts sneaking from tree to tree again. Any deer in the area are now long gone. I stayed in the stand dead still in the stand...he never saw or heard me. I didn’t come down off the of the stand till couple of hours later and it was dark. I was afraid he’d shoot me if he were still around. Fricken idiot.

He must be a pretty good shooter considering he didn't see the target, so he says.

"Marsh, who served as pastor of Russell Gap Baptist Church, was shot several times in the chest with an AR-15 by a man who told police he heard coyotes screaming nearby and believed the animals had trapped something in a tree."

I never heard of calling coyotes with a coyote call. It’s usually a dying rabbit or some similar sound. Of course, our shooter probably would have fired at a dying rabbit, too.

If I really saw it as an issue, I do have the potential solution available - a crossbow.

The left’s current hysteria over AR-15 rifles is only going to drive up demand, thus defeating the stated basis of their current hysteria.

Don’t they get that?

As a po’ boy, I’ve only got two ARs, but they’re fixin’ to force me to go out and buy more. Plus accessories. And extra parts. And ammo. Lots of ammo.
