Trump’s base warms to Ted Cruz after president’s amnesty ‘betrayal’
The Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, February 20, 2018 | By S.A. Miller

They aren’t calling him “Lyin’ Ted” anymore.

Sen. Ted Cruz’s stock is rising among members of President Trump’s base who feel double-crossed after the president offered amnesty to illegals in the immigration debate. Some who opposed Mr. Cruz in his 2016 run for the White House are even clamoring for the Texas Republican to mount a primary challenge to Mr. Trump in 2020. The newfound esteem for Mr. Cruz, whom Mr. Trump dubbed “Lyin’ Ted” when they battled for the 2016 Republican nomination, is coming from people who were die-hard supporters of the president.

“Ted Cruz has kept his word to the American citizens, and we are watching this very, very carefully,” said Sue Payne, a conservative activist in Washington’s Maryland suburbs who in 2016 championed Mr. Trump and reviled Mr. Cruz. “I’m getting very sick of Donald Trump right now. He’s turning his back on the people who put him in office.”

The moves by Mr. Trump that have alienated supporters include the budget deal that threatens more skyrocketing debt and a tax cut law that could make people pay more in high-tax states.

The original intent from the founding fathers gave two US citizen parents the power to bestow 'natural born' US citizenship.

And yet Barach Obama with one American parent served eight years!!

Obviously you don't keep up at all! Pity that!

And IF the so-called "DREAMERS" are working or going to school, where one needs proof of a SS #, are using a false one, then yes, they have committed a crime. And there ARE "DREAMERS" who have committed all kinds of crimes...belonging to a gang, muggings, murders and such. Under wee barry they didn't get deported or even sent to jail. Now they are.

No, didn't make it up at all.

But it's a moot point and OFF TOPIC to boot!

Just face it...you and your ilk are as deaf and blind and mired in delusions as the "RESIST" and Hilary bot crazies!

What you’re saying is untrue, and when I asked you to back it up, you refused.

And if that question were asked today the count would be very different....fact is the argument isn't if you agree. Fact is is they have the final word. POTUS averages around sixty cases a year. Roughly ten percent of the cases brought before them. Do you really think they would overturn a decision already unanimously agreed on by several judges. Ted Cruzes eligibility isn't on the list of things the Supreme Court will consider!!!

Ah, strangely, some gods on the bench claimed US citizens did not have standing to question the qualifications of that stranger Obama... The founding fathers did NOT give power and authority to Congress or the Judiciary branch to divine who is or is not a 'natural born' US citizen. None of them will touch that... they play games with the peoples rights.. and ol Cuban Canadian Teddy attempted to take advantage... Now let US not ignore or forget, ol Teddy's woman claimed that Teddy was the 'face of God'... and God did not find ol Teddy Cruz fit to hold the office of US presidents on the 'right' side...

The founding fathers, original intent was that 'we the people' are government. NOT political oligarchs treating 'we the people' like their slaves. 'We the people' do not need any judge or congressional act to give or take 'natural born' US citizenship. They do not have Constitutional power... that authority was given to two US citizen parents, birthing their child on US soil. Shame on you for helping the libtards destroy the original intent of our Constitution.

There were many threads here( not to mention news articles all over the net ), re Lyin' Teddy and his BFF Roberts, back when this all was news and even later on. I have a good memory, you don't, and frankly I can't be bothered to do a search nor do I give a rat's rear!

Cruz is a footnote, no matter how much YOU find him "worthy", many who also did, long, long ago, had their eyes opened by his words and deeds during the last Presidential primary season and yes, afterwards as well.

Nobody, but NOBODY is now "warming to him", no matter what this article claims!

His few sycophants still "love" him; the rest don't and never shall "warm" to him.

Just get over it. You'll feel better. Bless your heart.

As I said, he worked for Luttig. He was critical of Roberts, and only supported Roberts AFTER he was nominated (as many people did.) To say otherwise is a lie.

People are seeing that Ted Cruz is pretty much who he says he is. Many feel that Trump is betraying them. That’s the thrust of this article.

What was your reaction to Ted Cruz running around the country with his “Vice President” Carly Fiorina when he didn’t even win the Republican Presidential primaries? Was that the mark of a sane man?

It really defies belief that the Cruz supporters want 1,000,000 new democrat voters every year, through chain migration, they don’t want a wall nor even increased border security.

that authority was given to two US citizen parents, birthing their child on US soil.

This obviously is not the case since Obama was president for eight years...what you need to do is grow up. The power is with the people and the people they chose to vote for...for all the good intent you bring nothing of substance to the conversation , just your own personal beliefs that right or wrong is simply not a factual reality!!! And shame on you for wasting your time on belief that is simply not true!!!

Don’t tell me....tell President Trump...he’s the one who wants to give citizenship to 1.8 million of them and you accuse me of not keeping up.

I would call that a candidate thinking out of the box. He was behind and trying something new. In any other universe you would not think that was a bad thing.

They are not interested in facts. It’s a unreasonable urge to slam Ted Cruz.

He wasn’t behind, he’d lost the primary election. He refused to acknowledge that and “chose” a VP to whom his campaign mysteriously paid $500,000.00 during the election. He went into the convention, got up and made a total ass of himself, refusing to acknowledge let alone endorse his party’s nominee.

You can’t gloss over all the weirdness that was the Ted Cruz 2016 campaign. Running to the border with Glen Beck to hand out soccer balls and teddy bears to illegal immigrants, allowing Glen Beck to “swear him in” as President, it was a real barrel of monkeys there, no matter how badly you’d like to pretend it didn’t happen.

Then there’s the whole “Mr. Constitution” somehow managing to “forget” that he was Canadian.

The man’s just got problems.
