A Colorado couple said they sold everything they owned to buy a sailboat and set out for the open seas together.
Within two days, their dream became a nautical nightmare. On their way to Key West, Tanner Broadwell and Nikki Walsh's voyage abruptly ended in Johns Pass off Madeira Beach, Fla., when their 28-foot sailboat struck something underwater Wednesday night.

Before setting out they should have read...

...and taken a CG Safe Boating Class. Maybe a healthy fear would have prompted them to get more knowledge and experience.

Did they lose their gun collection in this tragic boating accident too?

Just remember the two happiest days in a boat owner’s life: The day he buys the boat, and the day he sells the boat.

I don’t think you can buy a decent 28 ft. Ocean Going sailboat for 10 grand.

    Their life savings were $5,000?
Who goes out on the ocean in a $5,000 boat?
If the story is right this is just two young people doing what young people do everyday, not always putting a lot of thought into a plan.

To: Innovative; All
Apparently, all they owned was only worth $5,000. Three months work for two people at minimum wage, minus minimal groceries and rent.
They did not lose much.

I’m not at all referring to this poor couple, but I live in Colorado and I’m intimately familiar with the “sailboat” clan here. They’re the most pretentious group of bores I’ve ever worked for, as a TV Producer. As individuals, I’m thankful for their generosity to me... It’s just sad to me that they are such phonies to each other.

They are lucky it happened where it happened .
That place is easy navigation and easy to get rescued .
They would have never made it past the 10,000 islands to get to the keys if they had trouble there . There is not much around to get help once you are out there .
