Jeff Sessions: Winner or Loser?

Posted on 02/08/2018 11:26:48 PM PST by KJC1

There is no monetary reward, of course.

But let's as FReepers place "bets". We can give each other Schiff later over who was wrong or right.

Some think he's napping, some think he's working behind the scenes.

So, if you'd like to participate, please do, and I hope I'm right but I vote for working behind the scenes.

Mueller will be pressured into investigating into how this Dossier was used against Trump. Which means the FBI and the rest.

Most of the time I like your posts. But since you can’t explain who it is that you think is “scaring Trump” you’re just talking nonsense.

You don’t know that Sessions isn’t doing what Trump wants him to do. It’s not his job to satisfy the curiosity of freepers. He doesn’t have to tell us anything. And he doesn’t.

He serves at the pleasure of the President. Not Congress, not the courts, not anyone other than Trump, who has the authority to fire every one of his cabinet whenever he feels like it. Myers v. United States, 1926 SCOTUS decision.

Not working, not serving the president or the American people well. I don’t recall ever where we did not have a DOJ in charge of their department. Whether by Trump’s action/inaction, Sessions needs to step up and say no, this is not right. The DOJ/FBI need to begin cleaning themselves up, yet we see the trainwreck continuing and absolutely nothing from Sessions. He has never once said this is wrong, I’m going to fix, and here is how. No, nothing. Total disaster. He needs to go, now, immediately.

Jeff Sessions recused himself from the phoney-baloney Trump-Russia “investigation.” He did not recuse himself from Obama-
Clinton-FBI corruption investigations, as far as I know.

So I’ll put you down as a “napper”...LOL, and you can rub my face in it if I’m wrong.

Probably half of us will be wrong and others can say “told ya so”.

Oh, NAPPER. He has never been awake once. Consider over a year and we still have the day one disaster that Trump inherited. Worse really. At least Lynch had things under control. Sessions is napping and the corrupt DOJ/FBI are doing what they want, corrupt lies and coup. Shame on Sessions.

Sessions, with his recusal, put Trump's dead-ender enemy Rosenstein in charge. Sessions refuses to resign. A Trump loyalist would resign in these circumstances. His resignation would then allow a real AG to get rid of Rosenstein and Mueller.

Without Sessions we would be knee deep in prosecutions of all the conspirators. With Sessions we have nothing but Mueller's BS witch hunt aimed at impeaching Trump. Sessions would rather let Trump get impeached than resign.

...and consider that NO ONE, except those wishfully looking for something positive out of the Sessions failure, no one is actively or substantively saying that Sessions is actually doing anything. Nope, nothing. Zero leadership, zero visibility, zero actions, and zero results.

No firings, no leakers outed, no prosecutions, nothing.

I posted this a week ago:

Up until today, I would have said Trump was keeping Sessions to avoid a confirmation fight in the midst of tax reform, health care reform, and/or immigration reform legislation battles. Trump didn't want to give Democrats leverage to tie an upcoming AG confirmation with concessions to legislation.

But now...

Tax reform is done; health care reform is stalled; Democrats are weakened on immigration reform due to their misguided government shut-down and their abhorrent State of the Union behavior; and Democrats are distracted by "the memo" and upcoming abuse of power revelations.

The time may be ripe for some Cabinet replacements. I'd rather see Trump and McConnell take on some Cabinet nomination fights now while there is a lull in legislation fights, a ramp-up in oversight committee investigations into Democrats, and especially before any expected SCOTUS seats open up.

That was right after the SOTU. Just in the past week, we saw the Grassly memo, the Schiff prank, some FBI departures, the Warner attempted collusion...

And still, McConnell makes nice to Schumer on a "compromise" budget deal!

So... I think Trump doesn't trust McConnell to manage a Cabinet confirmation fight, because McConnell is the kind of schoolyard bully who doesn't mind picking on his own but runs from fights with rivals.

Trump will have to live with the Cabinet he has, unless he's forced to fill a vacancy. McConnell is just too unreliable an ally.

Sessions isn’t napping. He’s actively obstructing justice and our President by refusing to act as Attorney General, and refusing to quit.

If you can’t see how diabolical this play is, I can’t help you.

Trump would have cut him loose long ago if he wasn’t.

Trump would have cut Sessions loose a long time ago if he hadn't been threatened with impeachment by Republicans.

Winner, Loser, or Compromised...

I’m leaning towards the 3rd option.

I’m from NY, and Sessions was my adopted Senator. Needless to say, the current situation sucks.

Whether that threat or something similar, Sessions seems to be the irreversible impregnation.

You may be on to something. I would be very surprised if any indictments are handed down until the IG’s report comes out, creating a sizable fig leaf.

If the President were to fire Sessions, how would he get his replacement confirmed? The dems will scream and tantrum. The republicans fight him on everything.

People seem to expect hourly updates from DOJ every time new info comes out. I’d prefer a prosecutor who methodically and meticulously puts a strong case together without the whole world observing and critiquing. What I don’t want is a Show Boater who does a Schumer every time he sees a camera.

For the moment, I choose to trust President Trump’s judgement.

The meme that Sessions is working behind the scenes is a convenient fantasy.
Facts show Sessions is a wrecking ball by his inaction, his stupid public declarations, his abysmal testimony before the Congress, his bad decisions concerning Rosenstein, his multiple backstabbing of Trump, his multiple refusal to release DOJ documents... Not to mention the unnecessary hurdle to Trump’s agenda because of a Senate seat loss.

And what Sessions defenders have to show off for his defense? Oh they have nothing because he is working... behind the scenes. Talk about delusional circular logic!

I was undecided on him until he said no one in DOJ can testify to Congress without approval. Plus he has overseen a department slow rolling information. Congress has to fight for everything... obstruction.

You don’t know that Sessions isn’t doing what Trump wants him to do.

You do realize, you're saying that Sessions lied when he recused, don't you?

We got very (overly so) used to AGs mouthing off: Eric Holder, in particular, and Loretta Lynch as well. Maybe Jeff Sessions is doing his job, and keeping quiet until the job is done right.

I’m still voting for working behind the scenes.

So where are the indictments? Nunes and Grassley have already uncovered mountains of evidence for Sessions to work with.

Indictments that would come from from politically charged work by the DOJ would come from grand juries. Grand juries take time, and are inevitably leaked when the subjects are so involved in politics.

Time is relatively short (judicially speaking) before the 2018 elections. There’s no choice but some patience until then.
