While even ONE is a criminal tragedy, I don’t believe it’s a “widespread problem” that girls from 9-13 years are bought and sold in America.
I just don’t believe it.
And the article cites no references/sources for the data they present.
Is this just sensationalism?
The article does give some sources, such as USA today, and The Institute for Missing and Exploitive Children.
The article also states that it is about 100,000 children - compared to our population of over 325,000,000, I guess you can just shrug and say it’s not widespread.
I know that the Pedo and Sex Trafficing rings arrested was 3000 shortly after Trump took office. I haven’t been tracking to see what it is now.
Operation Spade took down a trafficking ring that involved more than 20 countries and saved several thousand people IIRC. It was a 3 year Interpol operation several years ago.
With gangs such as MS13 in almost every state, I wouldn’t want to say it’s not a problem. According to what I have read, MS13 is very into trafficking of all sorts.
And with smuggling people over the border, there’s bound to be some that wind up in unexpected situations where they might be exploited like this.
So just shrug and don’t believe it - Just believe that the journalists who are working to expose it are raving idiots who just want to be sensational- you are free to believe whatever you like-Just laugh and go on without a care. It’s still a more or less free country.
The article is sourced from USA Today in which the author explain his methods of research, investigations, and making estimates:

My brother is a cop. He told me that human trafficking is a major problem in Louisiana. He said that most of the victims are children.
I’m with you. The article had a lot of broad references without documentation.
It read more to me, like thinly veiled propaganda trying to scare people into thinking this is an epidemic, therefore we need big government intervention, more laws, government rules & regulations, law enforcement.
If it’s tied to an open border problem involving Mexican girls & boys, I didn’t get that from this piece.
The article seems to now be deleted from zerohedge. The comments were getting pretty vulgar.
At this point, I’m with you, Mariner. The article cites... nothing.
“Is this just sensationalism?”
Bingo! It’s just liberal crap. Invented in the minds of liberals with a agenda to find problems that don’t exist.
Totally agree with you.
And that’s the problem. You don’t believe it because you, like most of us,live a sheltered life and don’t see it. Do you think the pimps and traffickers advertise on Facebook? http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/blog/2016/12/report-majority-of-trafficking-victims-are-women-and-girls-one-third-children/
