(Orwell was overly optimistic.)

I couldn’t go all the way to Cape Canaveral (live on FL west coast) but my 13 year old and I did watch the launch from the 11th floor of the parking garage at the Orlando airport. Pretty neat to see! We could also see the two boosters come back down.

Kewl. It was fun just watching it on the web, so I can imagine seeing parts of the flight in person. 8>)

I was born in 1947. I grew up during the space race. What an exciting time to be a kid!
Watching this launch took me back to those wonder years. After watching NASA piss away all of those efforts, it is exciting to see humans get the lead out!
I'm a little younger than you (but not much), and I love what Musk is doing with this.
As for NASA, I don't blame them nearly as much as I blame Congress and past administrations. NASA had plenty of plans to go back to the moon and to go to Mars, and the critters in Congress kept wanting to move that money around, and fund all kinds of stuff that benefitted this or that district or state, and the folks in the WH had little to no vision.

Thats good stuff!
About 25 years ago, we were in Orlando doing the Disney thing with our son and one of his friends. We happened to be in the room, and had the TV on, and the local news is on. Theyre reporting on a Delta satellite launch thats about to happen, and then it goes into countdown and liftoff. It launches, starts downrange, and we go out to the balcony. Sure enough, we see it heading east. Wonderful stuff to just happen to catch!
Also saw a couple Shuttle launches way back in the day, 35+ years ago now I guess. Wow! Getting old.

BFR will be more powerful than a Saturn V and be completely reusable. My guess is it will be about the same cost to the customer as a Falcon 9, maybe less. The same cost per launch, and not per lb. to LEO, or other trajectory, is what I have read. ??? That seems remarkable!!!

Musk has said that at some point during the development of the BFR, SpaceX will stop producing Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. He says used ones will be available for customers who want them, but my impression is he thinks they’ll all want the BFR.
This assumes that BFR development goes smoothly. So far it is.
