So, they drop the olive-bland digital BDU and go back to woodlands...

Excellent, now the Army surplus stores can get rid of all of their old stock.

Congratulations, Army, you just wasted half-a-billion dollars on uniforms.

Looks a lot more like a derivative of Crye Precision’s “Multicam” than anything related to the old Tiger Stripe stuff.

At least they’re getting rid of the Army version of digital camouflage, which was terrible.

Because if they don’t use the money this year, they won’t get it next year. Government waste.

This is the biggest non story of the day. The change to OCPs began in June of 2015. The mandatory possession date for the new uniform is simply the wear out date for the old BDU’s.

The real clincher will come when (if) we decide to go into North Korea, and (re)discover that the old Woodland BDU pattern from the black-shoe Army days is the best choice. Multicam-based camo patterns exist now in (in addition to the original) desert (very pale), jungle (darker than standard and very green), and urban (mostly charcoal gray). Maybe they’ll revise it again to add a woodland scheme as well.

New US Army uniform ping. From my observation, over the past year, of soldiers wearing this new design, it is a slight variation of the combat uniform that was issued to US troops in Afghanistan 2-3 years ago.

It is not the same as the “Tiger stripe” camouflage uniform from Vietnam which you can see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tigerstripe

This is so much BS. I can’t believe how much the Army has thrown down the rat hole on uniforms. Exactly how many enemy combatants can we kill with uniforms. Some senior officers need their a$$ kicked all the way back to civilian.

Can’t wait to see what the navy comes up with, camouflage is so necessary to them and the AF.

Read somewhere that the digital stands out. Gives away one’s position.

I scratch my head at how frequently our military branches change their uniforms - especially combat uniforms. Seems that just about the time that everyone finally gets converted to the new patterns/designs, it changes again. I have yet to see a convincing reason for the changes.

It makes one wonder if the brass who make these decisions get kickbacks from the manufacturers of all the uniform parts that get changed... Planned obsolescence to boost profits.

I clicked on the link. It shows a soldier in blue Class A’s. Are they disbanding the Air Force and transferring pilots to the Army?

Question: Are they going to keep the light brown camis for the desert countries? I don't understand where this new uniform is to be used. But then, I'm just an old aviation Navy swabbie and I don't keep track of every combat uniform.

BTW, the main purpose of the Navy blue digital camis is because of the dirt, fuel, oil, and grease that is on every Navy ship no matter how much you clean. The old chambray shirts I wore showed every little speck and had to replaced constantly at the sailor's expense. The officers and chiefs had the same problem with their light brown working khakis. However, it would seem to make it more difficult to spot an overboard in the ocean.

We’ve already been wearing these for a while. The pajamas (ACUs) were comfortable, but the pattern was garbage.
