Days after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents descended on dozens of Northern California businesses, labor leaders and immigration activists worry one of the largest rounds of workplace audits in years will cast even deeper fears across immigrant communities, pushing them further into the shadows.

California became the first “sanctuary state” in the country Jan. 1 when it implemented Senate Bill 54, a far-reaching measure aimed at preventing law enforcement officers from helping to carry out Trump’s promised crackdown on illegal immigration.

How's that working out for you California? They payroll audit checks to see if the worker is using a valid social security number. If he is using yours too bad for you as you will be hit at tax time for unreported income. I would love to get these illegal immigration activists social security numbers and hand them out to illegal aliens and let them deal with the repercussions.

Interesting these were audits and no direct arrests. Will they return to arrest? If they return, will the illegal aliens have scampered off like cockroaches? Either way, it would be interesting to know how many people did not return to work today or this weekend.

Fraudulently documented foreigners should be so afraid of discovery that they return to their own country.

looks like they’re just trying to get people to self deport. Which is fine. It’s cheaper.

Yes, agreed. Best if 99% self-deport. E-Verify of current and future full/part-time and temp/perm workers would solve a lot.

And the legal workers that remain will get paid more because they might be scarce and in demand. A win for workers. Never understood why unions never played this card instead of welcoming illegal aliens who drive down wages.

will cast even deeper fears across immigrant communities, pushing them further into the shadows.

Maybe it will push them all the way home.

The audits are just useless theater. Fake IDs are the easiest thing to buy on the street in California.

Employers use an outside service (aka; the big computer in the sky ) to verify the IDs presented by the employee. The employees are protected. The outside service verification is in the employees file.

The fake IDs include DL, Social Security Card, birth certificates, everything you can imagine.

I owned a small business in California and it’s impossible believe until you see it first hand in action.

This ICE theater will have zero practical effect with the sole exception of providing lots of O/T for ICE employees.

GOOD!
Those who break the law SHOULD be haunted!
Followed by arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned.
Including anyone who aids them in their crimes.

“Interesting these were audits and no direct arrests”

Employers will have to verify employees are legally documented to work in the USA. If they can't, said person will be terminated. They probably will not be rounded up and deported.

This happened to a Company in So Cal two years ago that my buddy works at. I know they make product for Aerospace which winds up in Gov contracts. Can't recall if the Aerospace Company requested the Audit or if ICE was tipped off by a pissed off employee.

“Can’t recall if the Aerospace Company requested the Audit or if ICE was tipped off by a pissed off employee.”

Forgot to mention, 20% of the workforce was terminated. This was under the Odunga regime, I don’t think the Company was fined which is a joke.

....
Oh, stop, you’ll make me cry.

The legal immigrants in those communities need not fear. The illegal aliens should be so afraid that they go home.
